I'm interested in Marketing (more on the creative side) as well but I am currently doing an accounting and international business major at UTS. I really do find accounting bland but I don't know if I should pursue marketing or face reality and do accounting for the amount of jobs available.
Is Marketing /Advertising really that competitive that it is almost impossible to find a graduate job or will having work experience along with credit averages help?
Also if I were to continue with the accounting major and eventually get a job as an accountant, would I be able to get a career in Marketing or do I need further education?

Don't listen to anyone saying "near impossible", that's just stupid. There's stories on these forums from people who've had almost no work experience and have landed a job.

Obviously, having a decent WAM and experience is going to help a lot, and give you the upper hand when it comes to some of the better jobs.

Having a degree in marketing isn't necessary for a lot a jobs as long as you have the "flair". Or so they say. If you don't have the specialisation you'll most likely be looked at as under qualified compared to people who do have a major in the area, unless you have decent experience to bounce off and manage to score an interview where you can express your "passion and flair".

Example taken from the Unilever Australasia website:

"Qualifications for Marketing:

All degree disciplines are welcome - what counts is a passion and flair for Marketing."

So to answer your question, you shouldn't need further education.

I did marketing in TAFE, did a diploma (distinction average). The only that's interesting is the creative side (advertising), the management side:jaw:.

If you go to Macquarie and have Dr. Manny Aston as your professor you will be extremely happy
