i suggest everyone do this, it helps A LOT.



The maths syllabus has a fair few standard questions, but otherwise, i'd suggest getting most of your practice questions from past papers. Just buy those books of them with worked solutions... I think they're by SuccessOne or something like that. either way, the 2U one is red and the 3U one is green. Also do trial exams from different schools. My school gave us copies of these.




Don't worry what band you get for internal assessments. Your internal marks will get scaled according to how well your school does in the actual HSC exam. A lot of people hold the misconception that no matter how badly you do in particular subjects (extension 1/2 maths, physics, chem, etc.), it will scale well. This is wrong. If you're getting 10% in extension maths exams, it will not scale well. People from selective schools will tell you their marks get pushed up heavily because, at selective schools, the entire cohort does well. Therefore, there is less difference between HSC marks. For example, lets say the internal assessment marks for 2U Maths range from 60-100. Then, we'll say the school HSC marks for Maths range from 80-98. The school's internal marks will scale, roughly speaking of course, to 80-98. If you were ranked last in your school with an internal assessment mark of 60, but then got 90 in the exam, you're marks would be as follows:
Internal 60 = scaled to 80
External 90 = remains at 90
therefore your HSC mark would be (80+90)/2 = 85

yeah I am covering half of the year's content (excl pracs for sciences) this holidays, but would I get time in term 1 to revise papers for my subjects if i stick to this holiday routine (notes for 2 modules)?

you could. depends on how fast you work. how long does it take you to do one module?

Um...I think Physics and Chemistry are quite self-explanatory. So the difficulty of content shouldn't be a concern. That being said, there will be a few concepts that will be hard to grasp.

However, I agree - why would you bother learning your options now? You should be focussing on your half yearlies now - and that means learning only the material that will be examinable in those exams.

A lot of kids burn out during these holidays because they try to finish the syllabus for all their subjects. I could name a few but I won't.

In general, you should have completed one topic (if the syllabus is divided into four topics). It is different for maths because there is more than four topics, though as I understand it, most subjects are divided into four.

My advice is this:
If you find yourself strapped for time in the holidays without trying to read ahead, don't. The christmas holidays will be your last true holiday for a year, and so you want to get in as much relaxation time as possible.

Enjoy these holidays now, so it doesn't mean you get sick of school as soon as it resumes.
