The situation between Taiwan and China cannot be resolved through observing and reparing the 'rift' between the greater chinese 'family' as Phanatical says. Although the idea is very cool and is something that a western nation could not understand, it still will not resolve the problem between Taiwan and China.

The CCP has probably banned such thought as 'feudalistic', anyway.

The problem exists because it is a face off between two vastly different political ideologies. Taiwan doesnt want the shit and piss of CCP regulations imposed on its economy which, despite being ignored by larger powers, flourishes through relations with several South American nations and elsewhere.

Flourishes through exploitation of those not as fortunate to be the descendants of the oppressors who took the entire Chinese treasury for themselves, maybe.

There are some who go through the so called 'Asian Pride' phase where they suddenly feel connected spiritually to their or their parent's homeland. Then their are others who never grow out of this stage.

I think we were saying (rightfully so) that this argument has no bearing on non-Chinese. It has all the relevance in the world to Chinese people, whether we're born and/or live In the Motherland, or throughout the world.

Frankly, yes. This may sound racist, but the fact is that a non-Chinese cannot understand how important this issue is to the Chinese people. The idea of reunification is tied to the very foundation of how most of us are brought up (Confucian), and unless you have a Chinese Confucian mindset, you cannot make an informed opinion. You cannot judge Chinese values on European standards, because Chinese society places different emphasis on different things, and to make an informed opinion, you have to understand those Chinese values first.

Yet Berry posts a thread critiscising Israeli tactics by shooting a 13 yr old girl who stepped into a kill zone. The same argument could be applied to him.

The same argument is given by Israel as some sort of justification to occupation and expansion. The belief that the Jews are entitled to "haretz Israel, all of it and forever" - Gurion. That some Israelis believe Palestine belongs to them, based on biblical texts is of no concern to the Palestinians, nor should it be. The only people to decide the fate of Palestine, are the Palestinians, regardless of Israeli belief.

The same is true of Taiwan. This is no European idea, this is a basic principle of human decency and morality.

What are you trying to say Phanatical? that it shouldn't matter what people of non-chinese origin think?
Exactly.
All these non-Chinese who goes to intervene in China's internal affairs, they all apparently talk about moral and f--k, but their true aim in the end is always for their own benefit.
(e.g Protects Taiwan- To sells weapons to Taiwan and make $$$, which'll also further prevent reunification, delaying the only possibly way in gaining sustainable peace.

Are you ok? You've been watching too much CNN or BBC or what? That is well and truly MURDER by all means (you can excluding American's overseas version of human rights).

Look, the only reasons australia is nto allied with china but with america, is that 1. china is a communist country and 2. is not a white dominatd country.

Yes its true, china is aruond 40-50 years behind america in terms of military technology, but we do have nukes. there will not be a war betwen china and the US, but should there be one, as i said before; conclude with a nuclear war. and taiwan is def a part of china, its ridiculous that it isnt, its like tasmania wanting independance. Its true that the only reason America is supporting the Taiwanese, is obviously, for its own benefit, its so that America can continue to sell arms to Taiwan and make $$$.

Any country claiming to go to war for a 'justly' cause is always complete bull, the only reasons would be either to protect themselves, for the resources or if its a strategic piece of land.

For god's sakes have you people even read the article?

For the start, that girls was NEVER (from the start till end) been identified to be a dangerous 'target'.
Also, it should be noted the girl was shot only AFTER she headed for a direction AWAY front the military position. Not to mention how a whole clip of ammo was required shoot into her body inorder to confirm the 'kill'.

If that is isn't a murder, nothing is. But by American's standard, anything is possible I guess.
(e.g You can 'save the world' by controlling a foriegn country's oil revenue, you can pull prisoners around on the ground on the back and still be 'humane', for god's sakes I can't think of anything that's not possible.)

Precautions need to be taken against a group of people whom in previous situations haven't flinched from strapping bombs to the backs of children.

ur comment is really not quite good! >"<
u haven't got any sufficient evidence to claim a few things, check out ur history book before u make up ur mind that, "taiwan is def a part of china, its ridiculous that it isnt, its like tasmania wanting independance. "
really i'm not offending u but looook at ur history book ,
taiwan is NO PART OF CHINA, NONONO!!!!
before China went ....... communist, taiwan had to back away, to avoid many things, and phew! Taiwan did or it will be devastated by many horror events the communist China once did .
yep, the U.S supports Taiwan for the sake of money, but look dude,JUST BECAUSE THE U.S WANTS OUR MONEY,that doesn't justify it, IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE TAIWAN INDEPENDENCE IS WRONG. This world will go mad if people judge to quick, like bush, don't compare Taiwan to any other country, it is stupid, Tasmania,Hawaii, any other, don't be to extreme because u might offend some here :p

Taiwan isn't a country. It's a province of China, so stop referring to it as if it were anything else.

It is a country by it's own proclamation. Country is a term referring to a nation being recognised as such. Hence, it is a matter of semantics. In China Taiwan is a province, and in Taiwan it is a country.

US support for Taiwan is based on the fact that China is going to be the biggest threat to US hegemony in the future, what small amounts of money the US makes from Taiwan is insignificant to the geo-political and military benefits.

However, this in no way mean that Taiwan is any less entitled to its right to self-determination, no matter the nationalistic zeal of Chinese people living in Australia who would probably not want to live under the fascistic and unfair rule of the former extreme communist turned extreme capitalist country.
