If every school pushed their students like Ruse did it would be terrible on the ego because you could get fuckin brilliant marks but still get a crap UAI (its a rank so there'd still be people better than you!!)

This is not the focus of most other schools, and that is great. In sport are they really crash hot...I have never heard of James Ruse being famous or recognized for sport. I'll correct myself on the debating but again that is academic.
I think the majority of high schools aim for academic results. I mean unless you goto a sporting, arts, music school, what other focus can you have besides academic results? You claim that "most" other schools aim for something else. Now that could explain why the state is so dumb, but still...abit exaggerated don't you think?
And I don't agree that your school has to be famous in sport to put emphasis on sport. 1stly, there are limited number of events and so many schools. So not every school can be famous for something even though they encourage the sport. 2ndly, keeping yourself fit should be a personal thing. You don't need a school to force you to do keep yourself fit. In my opinion, you goto school for the pure purpose of learning academics and what you do to improve your social life and health can happen outside the school playground.

True, but that's why students in places like China study so hardcore that they collapse and get carried away by ambulance after exams.
But even though these guys study so hardcore, in China, everyone gets to school early for compulsory morning physical exercises. So maybe that's something australia shoudl adopt to reduce the number of obese children.

What's wrong with some of you people. It seems you lack self-confidance or something. Look we are all equal in intelligence, unless you're retarted, and it usually comes down to attitude and resources with the HSC. The guys at Ruse have the right attitude and the right resources, pretty much every one of them but that doesn't make them smarter than the rest of us. Each and everyone of us can beat them or come equal to them if we too have the right attitude and resources. They ARE NOT, ARE NOT super smart genius'. And please don't be sarcastic with me, I'm serious on this issue.

...i seriously doubt everyone has the same intelligence. There r ppl in ruse who dont try and get hig marks, there are people in ruse who r dumb but try hard. If u fink all ppl at ruse try hard all day, i fink ur very wrong. Sum of the have great minds. But im not sayn only ppl at ruse have great minds. Im sayn not every has the same intelligence and ppl at ruse dun get good grades simply coz they study more.
Your marks are not directly affected by the amount of time u stare at a book.

I still think you're missing our point. We are NOT debating that the smartest people in the state are at Ruse. Im sure there are smart people capable of Ruse standard at every school. We are talking about the school as a whole coming first in terms of honour role mentions. I think the consistency of smart people at Ruse are what we are talking bout, not intelligence of individuals.

I'm just wondering, how many of you have met someone who goes to James Ruse? And by that I mean get to know them, not just seen them once and that's it. I think a lot of people would think differently about the school if they have.

Ultimately depends on who you meet. I'd classify about 10 ppl in my grade (of 160) being study freaks.

i don't see the problem with admitting that ruse ppl are smart. the school is very selective. they chose the very very top candidates who sat for the exam.
them doing well doesn't mean we'll do badly. it just means that since yr6 (or whenever they got in), they've worked consistently. and good on them

That's why we have specialist sports and music schools :D
Ruse just happens to be an academic one :p

frigid buddy pal, wonder who you got this from :p
Estimate only, based on last year's median UAI + scaling.

They're not estimates. The school gets all ex-students to send in their UAI's into the school.

I respect you. but seriously people haev to realise that not ALL ruse people are like that...

*sigh* spice girl how many fuckin ruse posts/threads/arguments etc were there last year hehe.

actually i just read the posts propoerly. i'm not sure what everyone's arguing about... or if you are even arguing at all..........

I remember that massive Ruse thread that went on for like 50 pages...the "Is James Ruse evil?" thread

Well, as a Ruse student, let me just correct some misunderstandings. Firstly, Ruse people are not all nerds. Secondly, Ruse people are not geniuses. The only thing any different about our school & anyone else's is that students here are able to focus on the HSC itself better than anyone else. Not that that's a good thing - I personally happen to think it sux. I mean, even if you want to be purely academic, there's stuff to learn outside the HSC, something I don't think many people here seem to get. That's the only thing we've got going for us, and I think it's a pretty sad reflection on the HSC that an attitude like that should be allowed to succeed.
