the code is a phrase or something

two terms combined --> its made up of two words
those "u's" are ours --> the u's represent 'ours'
in a 'c' of decay --> not sure what this means, probs relevant
Never and Hope are capitalised, possibly names?
O' woe is me is from Hamlet, but it's meant to be Oh
I think the O refers to the letter O in the code, but I can't decipher how the rest of the line is relevant
Most of that is right! The context of the line being from Hamlet, I can tell you is irrelevant. I've coloured anything that's right, or close to right, and bolded things that aren't right, but on the right track.

CANONICAL SOLUTION:

The solution is all about the sounds of the words:

O' woe is me -> O = E
Two terms combined, -> Two words
Those yews are ours, -> U = R
Beginning and end, intertwined. -> Z = A

Begging for amnesty, -> M = T (amnesty = m is t)
They flow, -> V = O
In a sea of decay, -> C = K
But Never giving up Hope,
In what remains. -> Remaining letters -> BNH

Putting this all together...

DUVCOPLOZUM = BROKENHEART = BROKEN HEART

The King has a Broken Heart! D:

dafuk..I was not even close to thinking of that..
That's what the hints were for:

Hearing -> SOUNDS ARE IMPORTANT
Not a nihilist -> EVERYTHING HAS A MEANING
Not hearing "Subway steel tuition" -> You misheard! He said "SUBSTITUTION"!

Can't be bothered making a separate marathon, so here it lies.

White to move, Mate in 3.

Find the sequence of moves. Assume black plays optimally.

1. Top right pawn is promoted to a queen.
2. Knight to a2.

Thats mate assuming the black pawn moves forward, right?

This does not achieve mate in 3.

The queen simply requires too much tempo in order to achieve a mate in 3, as the king can run around

Remember, black's intent is to delay checkmate as much as possible (or draw), while playing optimally with respect to other heuristics.

Secondly, it would be stalemate before checkmate is achieved, as you would still require an additional move to get the queen to ANY mating square, as Black runs out of legal moves before you can setup mating position.

1. g8 (N) b5
2. Ne7 Kxb4
3. Nc6 double check and mate. (all moves in this sequence are forced too)

I don't think you can do it in three with a queen promotion, so forcing the king into a double check in this manner seems to be the only solution.

My friends and I agree that this move deserves at least a double shout pole (!) for it's craziness, but also obscurity.
