when u guys finished the you session did they tell you when u have to come back for an assessment or did they call u like 2 weeks later? because i have just finished a you session for army full time even tho this is gap year same logic applys.

hey, I'm not sure if they do it a bit differently depending on what recruitment centre you go to (I went to Perth) but at the end of my You session they gave me a pack that said congrats you are ready to prgess to the next stage blah blah, then I had to send back a heap of forms that you had to sign- they lost mine, had to redo them.. oh the joys of DFR- ANYWAY then they sent out a pack with the date of the assesment day and ring you up as well to check its okay... It was about 6 or 7 weeks between You ses and assesment day but that was mainly becoz I took ages to send it in and they lost some of the paperwork.. Hope that helps

got an elistment date of 3rd april for navy...kinda screwed for uni though...i think that starts earlier, and the navy gap year is a full 12 months...I've applied for a uni (University of Queensland) course (intending to defer)
anyone else got that enlisment date?
..they told me at assesment day that they would switch me to an earlier date if possible...has that happened for anyone?

u got such a l8 enlistment date, they told me the cut off 4 enlistment was jan 1
i know someone that tried to swap for an earlier one cos theres is in march but the recruit officer couldnt do it said not to worry cos you will love it so much youll want to join .....any how theyll prob start uni mid semester if they want to go to uni still!
i know navy does run later for enlistment dates than army too
I"ve got my assessment day for RAAF tomorrow, has anyone got any advice? the job description on the website is not really helpfully, and what does the 'combat role' in my pre assesment day interview on the phone, she asked me that and i was like ah.... is that.. nah i dont know. cheers
hey there sorry this is a tad late, how'd u go? i got my enlistment date for jan for RAAF so excited...combat role i think it means that at times u might be required to engage in combat, to protect oneself, ones country, ones people etc...u wont get deployed on gap year, but if u contineu then u might get deployed, n be in a combat situation........blah blah blah i think i said something like that! lol so did u get recommended 4it?!

Combat role might mean that you will be an ADGie, Airfield Defence Guard, which is sorta kinda like infantry.
hey hey you have a medical assesment by a doctor, in your bra and undies lol its a bit weird, but generally all fine
then a psych conuslt, just stay cool with the psychologist they try to break you to see if your emotionally tough enough etc etc..
and you also do this weird hearing test it is shit, but i managed to pass.
and then finally is your interview, just stay cool and do you know what job your going for? if you do research it really well. if not just know what your reasons are for going in and make sure they know its what you really want to do.
mine went really well!
oh and get there EARLY! trust me. early early early.
you could be there between 2-6 hours.

haha, yeh dont worry about the psych interview, i had a super nice lady who i just chatted to, it was actually the most relaxed part of the day for me so u should be fine
the hearing test is weird but unless your deaf or hearing impaired its designed for you to pass so should be no troubles there either...good luck anyways!!!

Hey same position. I'm march 8 for navy, down for earlier if someone fails medical or drops out. I did manage to find a loop hole which works for navy and air force that if you have to leave for uni in 2011 you can.
I've applied for UQ as well and will defer for 2010 as well. March isnt so bad for uni though compared to april. I rang DFR and spoke to an officer who told me it was alright to have early discharge if its to go to uni. I haevnt got it in writing but its what i'm thinking i'll have to do to go to UQ in 2011.

Havnt got a letter of offer yet but a lady rang me up and said the raaf were interested in having me for the GAP, only problem is im currently not meedically fit, only due to eyesight which i have an opthamologist appointment in the next couple of days to clear up.
So im just wondering wont this be cutting it fine? Only because after this i will still need fitness tests, and blood tests etc? so does anybody know how soon i will do them? Yeah little worried because im thinking the raaf gappies are all going in january? does anyone have a date? :S
