Tied as the very first exam, with Business Studies.
I didn't really have much to say except for that :p I doubt (m)any Greek students would see this and/or post.

What does a fish + chips shop have anything to do with business studies? Have you seen the topics?

I might like to point out to you that I know of all the 11 who do Classical Greek continuers, and I am certain that out of 8 at least, I am the only Greek student. But your stereotype... Fish and chips? Since when was that a traditional wog image? Besides, I'm pretty sure "wog" encompasses more than just Greek.

I'm full Greek and my parents speak it all the time, but I just never had the knack of catching on and speaking it myself. I understand it fluently (except for the odd uncommon words and sayings) but can't for the life of me speak it.This is why I never picked up the subject, that and because my school didn't offer it :p

I'm full Greek too, but 6 years at Greek school didn't really teach me much with the language. More about the culture etc...
However, really, the only respect in which knowing Modern Greek helps in learning Classical Greek is the alphabet. Otherwise, it's pretty intense anyway Alot of private schools offer it, but rarely are they taken. The schools that reliably have classes every year are Grammar and Pymble. Otherwise, usually there are kids from SBHS (my school, only public one offering Greek atm I think), and the following schools are on and off with classes: Trinity, Shore, All Saints Greek Grammar School, St Ignatius, Meriden, and that's all I can think of.

We only have 3 doing it this year ... such a drop from the 6 or so last year. But I'm pretty sure they'll get 1,2,3 in the state. MAYBE thomas wilson or somebody can move into that, but they look as good, if not better, then last year.

I assume you're from Grammar, then. I've met them, and spoken to Brandon in particular at soccer. They're nice, and I've heard from someone else that yes, they're all really good. However, Thomas is really good too, and I've been performing fairly well myself, so we'll just have to see. Then there's the 2 Pymble girls, 1 Trinity guy and 2 guys from Melbourne (who don't offer Greek down there, so they do it through us). Better than last year's Greek guys? From what I know, Thomas Vallance, Ben Pope, Emmanuel Marinos and Max Menzies were all like, geniuses (or genii, to use the Latin).

Lol. Oh last year's were ridiculously smart. (although Menzies was in a league of his own). But this year Victor, Branden, and Thumpy are as good at GREEK. And plus, all three are looking at definate 99.95s (maybe 99.9 if one messes up). Plus, our headmaster (Vallance, the ex classics professor) went through the exam after with them and said they answered pretty well. Or maybe our year just has a lot to prove after our outrageous 30 state ranks last year.

The reason we think they're going to do so well is that all three are well in the top 10 - branden and victor in top 5. (branden was even dux in the halfyearly) Although I guess other schools could upset us.

What do you know? I didn't expect to see a thread like this. Anyway I'm now trying to work out who tku is since he seems to think so highly of our abilities. (It's good to know these things). But yeah if there are any other Classical Greek Students out there reading this I'd be curious to know what you all think. We three Grammar students all found that it was easier than our trial paper. (Always a relief) Also which essays did the rest of you do? As far as I know we all did the first options. And enjoy studying Extension to the other five of you that do it. :)

Out of curiosity, what grammar do you get up to in HSC continuers and extension?

At Grammar we essentially finish the grammar in yr 10, then consolidate it in yr 11. In yr 11 and yr 12 we just read real Greek.

what? so you just spend year 11 and 12 translating and not learning any new grammar?
