Low-key this is a very controversial take but unless ur parents are millionaires or sum, I think tutoring isnt useful. Hear me out but as someone who has never went tutoring, I had to learn stuff myself and ive honestly learnt how I study best and effectively. If you don’t know how to study in your own time thats what separates you from being the best you can. However, buying practice tests and resources is super helpful so that’s one thing I recommend.

But there’s a hast tutoring??
i mean that is somewhat true... but you dont have to be millionares. also the effectiveness of tuitions is largely dependent on the individual and how one takes in information (e.g. visual learner, sound learner, etc) like this for some people tuition is helpful whilst for other not as much. and yeah i did the hast tuition it was really good and it helped a lot for me

TLDR: do it if it works for you

yeah for me personally i just did practice tests (which still cost money but way cheaper than tutoring and allows u to learn at own pace), i did tutoring for y6 selective and honestly it was the worst for me 8 hrs on saturdays and worksheet after worksheet after mock exam, thats prolly why i failed in y6 cuz i was so burnt out from tutoring, but at least for HAST i could lock in at my own pace and understand, so thats prolly why i got in this time around

bro my school is so trash, its PNO (perms not obtanied) in the hsc ranks so u cant really know, estimates say around 400-500 maybe, but it was one of the most improved HSC schools in 2024 (not saying much but our principal keeps flexing it), thank god i made it to tech honestly
Bruh my school dropped by over 100 ranks 😭

Isnt parra ranked like 150ish or smth?? Ive heard about people who got in there in the selective stream who said they hated it cause in year 9-12 they were streamed with the rest of the cohort and they absolutely hated it. Id low-key just recommend being in catchment for a public school that tends to do well like Cheltenham or Carlingford high

what year u applying for?
yea but parra would be easier to get in i say and like its so much better than my current skl, i js want a decent skl istg im not chasing for top 10 skls, im fine with parra if i get in but after what u said i might change my mind, recommend some skls tho

sometimes people use mid-lowish schools as a stepping stone to go to a higher one
