yes i know you can do that, but admit that the experience is different.
especially if you want to invite your mates over for a few beers and some games.
'small form factor'?
It's called a LAN party, stoopid.

PC's own all. Now thats fanboyism. And thats not even a word.
I totally agree.

Pc's are excellent, however some (such as myself) prefer to have a constant standard which you don't have to upgrade. Also, I find the online community much better on Xbox Live (PS2 didn't have anywhere near as good an online service). Furthermore, although you can hook up the PC to the TV, I like how you play consoles laying back on the couch, controller in hand. For some reason it's a different and (IMO) better experience.
Here's my take on this:

Basically all of the points there you labelled with why you prefer XBOX over PC are valid.. but looking over at an overall sense, we both know you can do all those things with both (multiplayer, TV-out) etc. In that respect, I find consoles to be the lazy man's machine:

Multiplayer. PC's have LAN nites. However PCs are also big and heavy. Everyone needs a PC for a LAN nite (unless you're a cockface just there to bum around on other people's machines.. which does happen, man they are cunts). Then we need to network everything.. and some people might get screwed if they're n00bs. With consoles you only need one. Hooking up is very easy, and it doesn't take a non-lazy person to carry a relatively light console over to someone else's house.

TV-out. Of course consoles are based around TVs. With PCs, you'd need the tower fairly close to the TV or some extension where you'd need to go all the way to Dick Smith Powerfuck to get. Then you'd need a video card with TV-out.. GEEZ what a hassle..

Upgrades: No need to worry about graphics. Consoles already optimise everything with whatever hardware they've got and you never have to worry about learning PC tech for the sake of upgrading.. not that you have to upgrade.

See, I acknowledge these points. What am I getting at? Well it's just in my opinion that PCs do it a little better, just that it takes more effort.

Multiplayer: I find multiplayer experience on PCs to be far better than consoles. There are a plethora of reasons.. e.g keyboard/mouse, own screen, better customisation.. etc.

Machine hardware: Graphics on consoles begins to look crappier over time compared to current PC tech. etc. etc.

So in the end, it's like a scale to me for consoles (esp. for PS3/XBOX vs. PC since titles are familar). The way I put this might seem very black and white, but it's the best way I can sum up what I'm trying to say.
I find PCs to offer a better experience than consoles in general in nearly every respect. Just that of course, it takes alot more effort of preparation to get that experience.
Whilst with consoles, I find the experience a bit more limited, however it's all about ease.
So like I said, the way I view it is more about effort (or more crudely, laziness).

I just find it really gay if I were to go/have a 'lan' night. With mates I'm more into sports games. Hell, alone I also love sports games. Maybe that's why I love consoles so much.
Sports games on PC just don't seem right, for some reason. i have no idea why, but in all the sports games ive played on PC, i've been unhappy.

oh and regarding the lazy-man thing: agreed :D
although i spent lots of time after i got the modchip on my xbox making it awesome. It streams media from my computer (and the 360 will do that out of the box :D!!!), streaming net media such as music video channels, russian channels for my parents, etc.
Also the optical connection was great (since my sound card didnt have one at the time and optical cards seemed expensive). I had amazing 5.1 ch surround sound experiences with all games that supported this.

You're right, sports games suck on PC. I don't think I've played one sport game on a computer.

I think you feel guilty about going to LAN nites because only geeky nerds go there. Which is true, I guess (unless you're one of those fags who just go there to bum around on other people's machines like I said before.. man those douche bags are irritating). I used to go to LAN nights. I also used to hide that fact because I knew I was a sort of loser for doing so.. roflmaololo.

One thing I'll give consoles though, I tend to prefer their roleplaying games (not talking about massively multiplayer ones obviously). You know what my favorite game of all time is? Zelda on the Nintendo 64.. I bet someone's gonna laugh at me for admitting this on BOS for the first time........ roflz0r

I'm glad you agree with the laziness thing. To be completely honest, I was contemplating either an XBOX or PS3 when I first heard about them. That was because at the time, everything going on with my PC was stuffing up.. e.g failed hard disk, old video card, networking screwing up.. I thought, 'I can't be fucked with this, I'll sacrifice a little bit of 'enjoyment' (since I preferred PC's over consoles in all respects except for ease of use) so atleast everything works and I don't have to frustrate over anything to get it to work'.

So here's a note for you, if you ever catch me with a PS3 or XBOX (which I guess IS possible), it means I've become a lazy.. or fat. Or maybe both. :)

Accoding to the Associated Press about Microsoft's Xbox 360, Gartner Inc, the leading provider of research and analysis on the global information technology industry, recently estimated that Xbox 1 had about 34% of the global game systems market. They also estimated Playstation 2 to have 51% marketshare and Nintendo at 15%.

If the estimates are close to fact then it appears that Microsoft has timed the launch of the Xbox 360 to coincide with the peak momentum of its previous system. In such a saturated market, 34% says a lot from when the system first launched and was predicted by many to die.

Gamesindustry.biz concludes that results from a UK survey polling 1000 people show that the PS3 is the UK’s “most anticipated next-gen console”.
However, the two consoles are very much neck-to-neck at the moment

True enough, but only just, looking at the figures. Of the 1000 people, 32 percent say they’re planning on buying a PS3 (there are roughly 16 million PSOne/PS2s in the UK). 27 percent say they’re going to buy an XBox 360 (there are only 2 million or so XBoxen in the UK).

It seems that despite an enormous existing PlayStation user base, Microsoft are snapping quite significantly at Sony’s heels in some markets. Now, a properly representative study would have 2500+ respondents, plus the UK is only a portion of the European market, so this is all reduced to little more than speculation, but still. Interesting!

thats nice..
so u always go with the popular choice rather than the best thing?

graphics isnt everything.. some of the best games ever are still on the atari (played this morning.. was hectic)

M$ needs to be more innovative.. ps2 time crisis 2 is a niche game.. but it was the only one in that catergory... xbox's release of a gun game was cruddy at best.. and the gun supported about 2 games =(

ill wait a lil while till the prices drop and the systems have release their good stuff :).. dunno wat to get yet tho :(

I think Apple should make their own console. They could sell anything.
I think apple should go into the apple market and emphasise ipod compatibility

apple should actually concentrate on the media player field because for years they were "trying" to sell comp systems but failed then suddenly IPOD came along and they were propelled back into the limelight...

on the PC vs. console thingo.. u can get a custom gaming machine in a ps3/360 for.. wat, about $500-$700.

or you can get a high end gaming pc for thousands. thats the biggest advantage when comparing the two.

how much would it cost to build a pc that could match the ps3?
7 or so cores @3.2GHz + a graphics card that can match the RSX.

anyway... isnt the 360 being released early next year in australia, like late january?? where are you guys getting these release dates from?

The xbox 360 has been rumoured to come out late march (as per the xbox) for a while now. the rumours seem to be holding up (especially with the supply shortages etc).

Also compared with my knowledge of marketing and distribution (as well as the video games market), nothing big is released in the jan/feb period, as people don't have money at those times.
