I didn't really but textbooks for maths. I just used the readers you get from the copy centre.

you need to get a Distinction to go into the advanced level subjects.
You only need credit to do adv second year maths.

Just checked, basically to do an adv you would've needed to have done adv first year, or credits in normal first year.

i found statistics to be the most useful maths we did,
everything else is irrelevant cause computers do it for u

Well, I find that hard to agree with since stats happened to be the only unit where we used computers to do anything. (Actually quite a lot for stats.)

i hated probability at high school too.........like literally couldnt stand the shit.

The stuff in 1005 is quite different to the stuff in 3 unit, there is only a bit that overlaps.

The rest is all about t-tests and that kind of inference testing that basically requires u to know which formula to use.

I do recommend that u keep on top of it tho because otherwise u will end up like me and having to learn almost half the course a couple of days before the exam. Just gotta power through those 8 am lectures even when they get really really boring!!

The first few weeks in MATH1005 aren't too bad, but by mid-semester, it starts to get more difficult.

Yeah, 8am stats was quite possibly the bane of my existence at the time.

in relation to the computers i talked about, i meant the concepts we learned, not the actual number crunching

Fundamental Theorem of Statistics

1. You can't prove anything using stats. Everything is only statistically favourable at most. (courtesy of Raimondo)
2. Every statistical model is bound to fail. (Robinson)
3. If in doubt, use R to check. (Raimondo)
