Which subjects should I choose for hsc if I am only good at commerce? (1 Viewer)

i think honestly english extension and physics. Though I know that I'm not that amazing at them, I like doing them.

Well then that’s good cause as long as u lock in u should be fine. But u also have to consider the workload of doing both ext’s and 3 humanities can be a lot of work

yepp so i was thinking to do:
economics, legal, business, ext 1 english and ext 1 math
but:
> in this discussion, business didn't seem that valid and I also recently spoke to some seniors who told me there was bad scaling, so they didn't recommend it

Those subjects would be my 12 units which I could drop later on. However, since I am not extremely strong in math or english, more particularly math, I need to find another subject that could be my two units which I would be good at - but can scale well and is interesting. I was thinking a science such as physics or biology may do as the scaling is good, however, I only get mid-80's for those subjects. I was also thinking to continue my accelerated subject computing but I am unsure as to whether it would scale well.

I am sure I want to do economics, legal and english advanced, but I need to decide on the other 6 units which I was hoping you could help me decide on

well, i'd probably continue ent comp (if thats what you mean ) just because presumably you're already almost at the prelims...
am i right in saying you're counting that to your 12, as it stands right now?

physics and bio are good choices, if you're interested, and honestly a mid-80 is not that bad...

are you going for an all-rounder award? or just general high performance, high atar?

if you were saying, maybe you aren't going so well in math, ext 1 might not be the right option, since it's another step up from advanced and if you're not performing as well as you'd like, it'd be better not to have the added work. Can I ask if you're in 5.3? Even if you aren't advanced is still a good choice, imo.

Thats true, I'm emailing my teachers as we talk here lol, but do you think 80's would be enough?

I mean it depends on ur average cause if everyone is getting below this then it should be fine but if there’s quite a few people getting above it then maybe u might have to think more about it. But if ur willing to lock in with math it should be fine but it can be really tough tho. Personally I was getting in the 80s too but I didn’t pick ext cause a lot of people were getting even better and I wasn’t too confident with my math skills. But ur situation might be different

If ur really good with understanding complex math concepts then u might be fine but if it is a bit harder then maybe not. Cause ext can get really hard

That's true, but I do not know what other subejcts to do, whether I should even do math - since my school its a high scaling subject - but not as much as english. I haven't been introduced to 5.3 - but I just searched it up and I think my class is in 5.2 ...
Also, since english is higher scaling and I can get better in that (since I usually have one assessment that brings my average downfrom 90 to 80 ), I think I should do extension 1 enlgish ....

Hmm well if u are in 5.2 then u prob shouldn’t pick ext cause even adv will be challenging. But what sort of topics are u doing? Cause if ur doing more complex stuff like non right angled trig, unit circle stuff, complex non linear stuff then that’s 5.3

I never really thought of that but yeah, I think I'm somewhere in the middle in terms of ranking unfortunately. Like people think I'm smart but I sometimes get worse though it may be a high 80 or 90 which eventually ends up being midway compared to other people.

you can still totally do well in advanced in 5.2, but i'd recommend going into next year having done some study on the content, just to give you that edge, or at least catch you up to 5.3 students. Realistically, you can absolutely perform well in advanced having done 5.2.
That bit about prior study is especially true for mx1: the content is "harder" so it follows putting in a little work beforehand would pay off later...

at a top 10 selective, you'll probably be fine in either mx1 or just advanced...

Oh so ur in selective. Then yeah ur def doing 5.3. In that case then ext should be fine cause probably half the grade in selective does it

I don’t think selective offers 5.2 especially a top 10 one. Cause that all seems like 5.3 content

I just think its because everyone around me is so sure on what learning, and my friends often end up with a few marks more than me - I mean its just a few but its always more - which is really demotivating especially because I work as hard as them.

Sorry this sounds like a sad moment but I think that there is a clear rank of what is being taught in the class above me so I'm not sure if theres something harder than 5.3 but their work seems harder and that class always end up with better marks.

business is so easy and its just memorisation so its so easy to get a band 6. Don't worry about scaling too much ik someone who got 99.95 with business. Business is sooo much easier than legal (i did both and can def say i barely studied for business compared to legal)

1. I still have my doubts about doing three social sciences - especially with business - but I feel that I would do better in them than other courses. Does anyone have any ideas for something I could do rather than business that I would still do well in as a student who is strong at humanities and english - but not interested in tech nor languages?

2. Right now, these subject choices total to 11 units - but I need 1 more unit for the minimum units to take for year 11. I was thinking of SAC since it seems simple but I am not sure I would enjoy it. Does anyone recommend any one unit courses other than eng/math that I can complete for my minimum courses?

3. Also, I'm debating on whether or not to continue computing accelerated - and finish it, then still do 10 units in year 12, and have my best 10 count which may or may not be my accel. computing. Should I do this, or just do courses and not finish my accelerated one?

Even if you don't have ideas for all of them, any answer to any point would be much appreciated

hi idk if ur school offers this but I highly recommended sor1 or sor2 (the same thing just has differences in units). considering the fact u wanna pursue smth other than business, i really would urge u to consider sor2. it’s a humanities subject that i think you would do well in considering the fact that ur strong at both humanities & english. in year 11, it’s a bit boring (maybe bc of my year 11 sor teacher) but you’ll get through it, just need to memorise tbh. and in year 12, it’s a lot more engaging & fun. i absolutely love sor in year 12 and am excelling at it, it’s ssooo good. if ur school does offer it, than feel free to ask me any questions abt it if ur interested. if not, that’s fine.
additionally, i think taking up cafs (community & family studies) is smth to look into. im pretty sure it’s basic stuff. ive never done the subject nor know much abr it but ive seen a lot of ppl talk good abt it so if u wanna do ur research on that than do so!

you could try a history? modern and ancient are pretty similar tbh... if you enjoy english, especially essay writing, you'll do well in either of those subjects as someone who's probably gonna take hist ext next year, try modern!! and also modern doesnt scale too bad so its not like thats a drawback or anything

apparently cafs scales pretty poorly, so if you wouldn't mind picking a history up, then maybe consider that?

well, to your second point, probably keep computing for those two extra units... you might as well! since it puts you at 13, over the 12 required to enter year 11

is there any reason not to finish computing accel, to your third point?
