Sanity used to be a place I really wanted to work at. Then JB HIFI opened at my local mall. :p

Age: 16
Job: Greater Union Usher
Pay rate: $11.41 an hour
Hours per week: Varies. This week I got 14 hours. I had to work Christmas Eve and today, but I got double time, so.....whooo!

Dude. You're 16 and you get paid more than me. Not cool.

Age: 18
Job: Casual retail...person at Victoria's Basement. Includes stocking, tending the register and dealing with idiot customers.
Pay rate: $10.50 per hour.
Hours per week: average 30; been more recently with the extended xmas trading hours.

Okay, my employer is actually not legally paying me enough. Only get $2.10 casual loading; no holiday casual loading; no saturday 4+ hour allowance and no time and a half on sundays (which I do work). Which means when I shove the legislation in their faces and claim for retrospective pay I'll probably lose said job. Oh well.

It should be in the contract you signed upon accepting employment at that business.

Nup... I have been at a Dr's surgery as a receptionist for 5 months now, and I haven't signed anything with a surgery letterhead except the privacy contract.

I'm 19 and get 8.94/hr, but that is according to the clerical and administration state award, not the trainee award.

Rhodes. :)

Yeah most of the staff are male. They hired two girls at the end of last year.

I've done a few odd jobs:

Casual market research interviewing: $17 - $19/hr
Tutoring: $20 - $25/hr
Student marketing: $14/hr on a short term project, but it was alot of fun!

I really feel for you guys working is retail and hospitality especially. Being paid based on age really is a disincentive. If you have the opportunity, have a look jobs in the services sector. Casual ones are flexible and you get a higher rate.

Mate, I won't bother about Data Entry job unless I stumble across it.
I can actually type something in the vicinity of 50-60 wpm and applied for just about every administration positions that I could find before Christmas period, but got nothing apart from a couple of phone interviews. Don't go for it unless you find some desperate employer or you study some sort of computing/administration course at TAFE or Uni.
Got another job, though I don't know if I am to last in it for a long time.

Bah, I don't turn 18 till May. I think I'll just stick it out jobless till I do. Anyway, I'll make sure I enjoy these holidays not working seeing as they'll be the last major ones before I do turn 18 and find a job.
