depends on the difficulty of the exam paper, and the canditure of the course
usually around mid 70s to mid 80s for a band e4

I'm getting a reasonably consistent 100/120 type raw mark. Does anyone know whereabouts that would get me for a aligned mark? Also, what are other people getting for raw marks and year rankings and schools and such? I figure 100/120 should get comfortably into the 90s, but I'm not too sure how high it would get. Thanks

By the way, I'm at a country school (Lithgow High School), which is contributing to why I have no idea where my marks would take me.

Also what mark ranges are extension bands based around?

raw mark of 100/120 should definitely be scaled into 90s.. not so sure what 80/120 would get scaled though !

in the hsc of most of the previous years if you get a 70% (84/120) as a raw mark that would put you at the top of the state or very near it. the thing is most people do not get enough time to even get close to finishing the exam. i hear the story of a friend of mine's brother who only answers 65 to 70% of the paper and got a strong band e4. try doing the exam under time limit and you will find it much harder. right now im only getting 50-60% (65/120) at most because of it. last year everyone at my school got an e3 or above. to get that mark you would have to get in the top 75% of the state. the minimum mark thart gets you this is 73% (2004hsc) as an HSC mark which scales to 83%.

It seems a little weak to just be near the top of the state with 70%. I do my tests under time limits and still get in excess of 80% (96/120). Unless our understanding of top of the state is very different. I am talking about the top group of candidates. Surely you'd get a decent amount getting marks in my range. Are you talking about e4 band? That sounds more likely.

Definitely depends on the test each year - apparently in 2003 the top mark was about 104/120. You should note that it is very different doing a test at home, even under the time pressure, to actually be in the exam. Last year I was doing practice papers for 2U and getting very close to full marks each time, but in the exam I must have only got 105-110/120

Also '04 was an easier year, so the cutoff for band E4 would have been higher for that paper. ;)

'05: 79/120 but could have done better. I found it long and annoying (too many 1 and 2 markers) and gave up without much attempt on Q7 and 8.

2005 was identified by the likes of terry lee and andrew ngai as one of the hardest exams in recent times (i.e. within the last 15 years), 2004 on the other hand was one of the easiest.
