Hmm funny I don't think I've ever experienced half a school? :p Jk
I reckon there are plenty of low-ranked schools that have a higher % of kids that study and try, and I'm sure there are higher ranked schools with heaps of kids that don't put in that much effort.

Someone should do their PIP on this tbh
Yeah

I'm actually interested in the results

Hmm maybe I'll just wander into the Society class on my sign-out day next week and give a couple of 'em a wee nudge
Please do haha and get them to post their survey here! I'd be so keen to do it

Statement 1: flops comment is accurate
Statement 2: I've only experienced 1/2 schools
Statement 3: I can't comment on any of the other 500

You'Ve just proved me right as general = common to all/most

Thus we need to gather statements from 10-30 schools ranging from low to high ranks in order to come to an conclusion
You realise the fact that they are ranked from 100 onwards actually kinda proves flop's generalisation is correct?

It's pretty much right by definition. Low ranked schools aren't as good as high ranked schools, otherwise they'd be high ranked schools too.

I wish I went to my local selective school. Too dumb to get in the first time (who knows anything in year 6), but definitely could have gotten in year 10. Oh well.

What's special about selectives is smart people tend to flock to them and you have a school filled with high achievers, or at least higher achieving than your average student at a public school.

I would guess most kids their have bigger dreams than your average public school kid, teachers actually care about teaching well, and don't forget about the kids struggling (or maybe not, I have no idea, heard this is true for private schools).

Public schools are filled with kids who don't care, majority are not high achievers and maybe only the top 15% of the whole school is. You know what's weird, I heard one teacher say "I never wanna teach the top class, they're too smart, too much pressure". Wtf?

Aim for a selective school.
attended a local public school, moved to selective school in yr 11, this is pretty accurate

Not sure if this data is relevant (due to the year) but...

Plenty of non selective schools in the top 100 there.

Conservatorium High School is selective btw.

So there's 9 comprehensive schools in the top 100, with like 500+ not in the top 100.

Pretty sure that shows how true the generalisation is.

You can't have 500+ schools in the top 100, when there's only 100 spots available.

That's the point, most of the comprehensive sit outside the top 100 whilst most of the selective sit within the top 100.
Yeah. Most comprehensive do sit outside of the top 100, but to say that the teachers are lazy or that kids don't care would be false. (There are bad apples, but not all)

If you look at the top 100, a lot of the schools are in affluent areas. A lot of the underperforming schools are in regional and poorer cities, where a lot more factors affect them (e.g. family situation, finances, amount of access to resources in their schools). Also, richer students have access to tutoring.

It'd be too simple to put it that "Public schools are filled with kids who don't care, majority are not high achievers".

Additionally, that comment about teachers not caring and leaving students behind, I don't even.

Of course there are hard workers/high achievers at public schools. Flop just made a generalisation that there are A LOT more of them at selective schools.

It seems someone here doesn't understand what a generalization is.
It is something that is GENERALLY true, NOT always true.
It is the same as saying "October is generally hotter than September". It is absolutely correct, but doesn't speak for every day.
As such, it WAS an accurate generalisation.
