is there a good, easy experiment at home to investigate viscosity?

well viscosity is the ability to resist motion, so oil has a higher viscosity relative to water. You can test this by pouring oil and water diagonally to something perhaps a bowl, with the same volume at the same time, the slower, the higher the viscosity, same with other substances

1. Acquire some sort of ramp, like a chopping board.
2. Have it slanted at a fixed angle.
3. Pour equal amounts of several fluids from the top at an equal height and measure the time it takes for the fluid to reach the bottom.

Use water, honey, oil and a form of alcohol if you can, but then there are problems with the alcohol diffusing and reducing volume.

fill a water bottle with water and drop something into it (5 cent coin). time how long it takes to hit the bottom.
fill a water bottle with vegitable oil or tomato sauce or honey, and drop something into it (5 cent coin) time how long it takes to hit the bottom.

the medium which makes the object dropped into it the longest for it to hit the bottom is the most viscous.

Tell about how you plan to do tomato sauce? :p Also, this experiment would be invalid and inaccurate since the orientation of the coin in the bottle would have an effect on the velocity of the coin. It would be better to use something like a small iron sphere ball since its orientation would have little effect on the movement of the ball.
