Hi all!

I am currently a first year at UTS' Computer Science Honours degree but I wanted to go to UNSW Computer Science. My ATAR was an 83-84'ish and my WAM is currently an 80. Would that be enough to transfer into UNSW Comp Sci at the end of the year, so far I've maintained a WAM of 80. But do you think an 80 WAM is enough or should I aim for like an 85 to 90 WAM?

Also, I have a friend in Year 12 who got Early Entry into UTS Comp Sci honours also, but he also wants to go UNSW. Should I recommend him to go to UNSW and internally transfer or go to UTS and grind a good WAM to externally transfer and not waste a year restarting a course?

Thanks!

Its bc youre always complaining abt eng cutoffs so i thought you would be happier w the news 😞
but yh we got 0 band 6s for eng adv last yr (which is the first yr in a couple of yrs) and idk if the class of 25 is gonna b6 but theyre trying to weed out the ppl that cant thrive in adv

they are just ruining people's atar. you need to get 65% to get a 70 in standard, meanwhile you only need a 55% to get a 75 in advanced.

they scale the exact same after alignment, it's just that english advanced aligns much better (raw marks to aligned marks greater).

im pre sure that even after a year of grad, uni's will still consider both atar + wam or whichever one in isolation to sus out whether it'll place u in a favourable position. ur wam is decent, and if u think u can improve it, i think u'll have a good opportunity of externally transferring

that would entirely depend on your WAM in criminology

for degrees like that, you’d need around 75+ to be considered for an IPT to law and you also need to complete 48 UoC (8 subjects) before you can do so. you can also apply the year after through UAC and re sit the LAT but your atar would remain the same, so if your atar was bringing you down then good chance you won’t get in through uac

keep in mind you would want a WAM Of 85+ to be competitive

i cant sit the lat again cus this year was its last and lets say i get like 90 WAM would i be able to get in then? also how long would i have to wait if i do that? i mean i did the uac atar calculator and i do have a chance to get into law directly after atar but im not sure how reliable uac is so i just want to see my options

if you maintain a 90 wam i Believe you wouldn’t struggle to get a spot, even though it changes year by year, the cutoff hasn’t ever been 90. you’d need to complete a year of uni to do that

do you reckon the lowest selection rank will rise for the 2026 entry? I remember in 2024 when the cut off was 94 selection rank and this year was 97.7. Does that mean that this year i need to be around like 98 or would i need to get the lowest selection rank that was decided for my year group? if that makes sense?

it’s very random, the main factors that influence that are cohort size and strength. i *think* you guys have an even bigger cohort size than we did, so if that’s telling at all then it’s possible the SR will remain around 96-98. of course, assuming the cohort has many smart people. your SR will always be compared to the current year group
