They usually don’t, but everyone usually uses different quotes often from the same critics. So if your critics are made up or unique , your teacher maybe tempted to check, they do be bitchy like that.

As I keep saying to my students there is no compulsion to include critics . There is a reference to them in the syllabus but you don’t have to and I’ve marked several top Tseliot essays with and without critics .


it’s not what the critics say that matters it’s what you say about it and the critic is a supporting or contrary opinion and gets a brief reference

tbh the hsc sucks too much of my humanity to care about the validity of some quote floating on an endless sea of knowledge. sometimes i feel like im being told to run a marathon with a knife in my stomach and people scream "you're too slow!", society devolved into whatever you call this mess in the name of progress. we talk about the complexity of the human condition but its half didactic, when ever did an english teacher teach us to act on the inconsistencies of human behaviour rather than just recognise it? i conform to the expectations of the very systems that teach me about the dangers of conformity; i am forced bleed to the paradoxes that stab me.

I not only taught my students to recognise aspects/ concepts of human behaviour and its inconsistencies but also incorporate how the characters act with that behaviour and what it teaches today and why it matters
