...by the fascist Howard Government under its attempts to rid the ABC of bias.

The main person you can blame for this is Liberal NSW Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, she issued a press release claiming Media Watch and The Glass House were very anti-Howard. Later she went on to accuse SBS of showing pornography and sympathising with terrorists.

I hope someone can save our ABC, and free speech and media from its impending right-wing bias now apparent on all commercial stations. This puritan, evil bitch must be stopped so send your hate mail to senator.fierravanti-wells@aph.gov.au or go to her office in Wollongong. Her details are below, note she is active in many Christian lobbies.

I got this bulletin on MySpace from Dave Hughes:
hey everyone i understand my bulletins may be tedious but anyway i'm not happy today, the abc has axed the glasshouse, it's fucked us all off
I've had so many comments on my page from people who have said they like it I had to tell ya's.
It's happened at a time the ABC has said they are going to be less biased ie. less critical of the government. But apparently it doesn't effect comedy. Interesting
We'll be on for the next few weeks 9.30 wednesday nights. check us out, and if ya got any complaints to forward to abc television, you can go through abc.net.au.
ps You could also tell them well done on their decision if you want to. Your choice.
and on Wil Anderson's MySpace blog

G'day folks,
Before you read it in the papers over the next couple of the days, I just wanted you guys to know that the ABC have decided the final ever episode of the Glass House will go to air November 29.

On the upside, this will be a one-hour awards special recorded on the 28th, and will feature plenty of our favourite guests from over the years.

It's been a really fun five years, and I will write more about it when I have the chance, but I have to go now and prepare for tonight's record. Make sure you tune in the next few weeks, we are going to go out guns a'blazin I promise.

Cheers,
Wil.x.
I really don't want a repeat of what happened to Good News Week if they switch to Channel 10.

Glass House stoned by ABC

November 1, 2006 - 10:30AM

The ABC has told the stars of it's high-rating show The Glass House that this will be their last season.

The national broadcaster gave no reason for the decision to axe the comedy show, which has been at the centre of a storm over allegations of anti-Howard Government bias.

Station executives reportedly told cast and crew yesterday, with the reason being that not all shows could be renewed.

Host Wil Anderson posted a blog last night promising to "go out with all guns a'blazing".

Co-host Dave Hughes said axing the show made little sense and this morning on his radio show urged fans to watch the remaining four episodes.

"We have had our best ratings ever," he said.

The Glass House seems to have become the latest casualty in the so-called "culture wars" and is just a day after Liberal NSW senator Connie Fierravanti-Wells said co-host Corrine Grant had been guilty of a serious conflict of interest because she was the public face of the ACTU's workplace relations campaign.

It also follows revelations the ABC will pay a new chief censor $280,000 a year to investigate and monitor instances of bias on ABC programs.

Anderson, Hughes and Grant regularly make jokes about John Howard and US President George Bush, provoking critics to accuse them of bias.

But during a recent show Anderson responded to criticism by saying if Mark Latham was in power they would be having a great time.

The last episode of The Glass House will go to air on November 29.

This is the kind of thing we really need for Howard to win the next election.

What is wrong with satirical editorial comment?

Why doesn't anyone complain of 'bias' on the commercial channels? I mean, Alan Jones, gets his own non satirical sport on the Today show.

Exactly, people are turning around and saying Media Watch is unfair only because their egos have been bruised by uncovering their shonky reporting (esp. Gerald Henderson), they haven't noted that Media Watch sometimes even targets ABC itself.

Just the way they report the news on 10 and 7 in particular is extremely biased...and their current affairs programs, 'a current affair' and 'today tonight' are absolutely rubbish...they are mostly just extended ads for various products...like all the shows they do on 'what's the best kind of shampoo?'
well bugger me, I didn't know that was a topical issue!

I never saw the Glass House as biased...they bag the crap out of everyone, J.H, Kim, George Bush, labor liberal whoever...John Howard is attempting to push censorship by calling it biased...

:(

It isn't as though these types of shows weren't ripping off the Keating/Hawke governments when they were in power - it's just a lot easier to attack the current government.

I hope lateline doesn't get the chop - that's now the only thing I bother watching for current affairs/news :(

good ridance I say. They were trailing off for a while now. Evolved into a 1/2hr of what I call 'dad jokes' and listening to eachother's grotesque fake laughter. Seriously not funny, just lame.

I disagree, the last few shows Wil had laid off the really childish stuff, plus they had their best ratings ever, so I don't think they've done this for "economic" reasons as they have stated.

The glass house was one of TV's truely great shows. It didn't deserve to be axed. It would've been cheap to make too (compared to drama etc). I guess we just live in a world of political correctness these days.

I am completely outraged!!!!

Grrrr we really are living in more of an autocracy by the day!

The howard government has stacked the ABC board with right-wing conservatives such as janet albrechsen and the likes. This is a disgrace and a complete violation of freedom of speech. I look forward to this show every week, with the ever-hilarious dave hughes, zany corinne grant and will anderson.
This certainly is a sad day....HOW AND WHERE DO WE PROTEST THIS DECISION?!

this thread is embarrassing

they probably axed the show because the abc watched the bit where they put a funny hat on dave hughes and he pretends to be someone but doesnt actually pretend, just say eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh..............yes and everyone laughs, and thought fuck, this is so shit.

Or when he harasses the audience with sexually suggestive questions feebly trying to humiliate whoever.

Or when they take a filmed 'yes' or 'no' from any polly and stuff any manner of stupid question before hand.

Or when that overdressed bimbo falls back on lame physical comedy and tries to patronise dave blah blah blah
Hm. Comedy.

cant help but think that Barnaby's bizarre appearance triggered something?

The Glasshouse espouses very American humour..

Humour accoridng to the big three (Will, Corinne, David) consisted of insulting whoever they could about whatever they could..

If that is meant to be 'top rating' humour, then there is something seriously wrong..

I for one, will not mourn its loss, finally someone smashed the glass, and look what happens. My money is better used on something worthwhile..

Yeh, you can complain

Dave Hughes sent this MySpace bulletin
To the thousands of people(and i ain't exaggerating) who've messaged me or commented my page about the glasshouse being assed by the new state controlled abc, i really do appreciate your support. And i apologise for not being able to reply personally at this time, i do read them all though!
John Howard has been on the radio in South Australia this afternoon claiming he didn't get the show axed.
That's funny.
Anyway if you haven't already, and have a couple of minutes to spare, go to abc.net.au/contact and drop the abc an email, lets try to break a one day complaint record. Just for fun.
ps. my myspace friends are the coolest! and i mean the guys as well. In a nongay way, though there's nothing wrong with that. what ever floats ya boat.
It doesn't matter if it was good or bad, ratings were good and Dave and Corinne were both told a few weeks ago that it was gonna be pulled but without a reason.

CSI gets good ratings.. All Saints gets good ratings... It doesnt rally indicate anything about the quality of the programme..

On a Wednesday night, in that timeslot, NCIS usually wins the ratings, which isnt hard as it has to compete with The Unit and now ER (which lost it years ago)..

Mind you, I thought the ABC wasn't about ratings.. ratings only matter to the sponsors of the commercial networks..
