Should I drop down from Maths Advanced? (1 Viewer)

Sorry for asking a question very often seen around here but I really need some advice.

I've recently moved from NZ to AUS so the curriculum here is a little different to that of NZ's, considering there's some gaps in my knowledge - so where I was excelling at maths in NZ, it's not translated all that well to Australia's curriculum. I am absolutely guaranteed to myself that I'm not going to get a high mark on the Maths Yr11 prelim and would be lucky to break past a 60%.

I have the choice to drop down to Standard for Yr12, but the thing is I AM interested in learning the stuff in the advanced course as compared to Standard (ie. I want to learn how to do calculus/trig) but I made the grave mistake of not properly studying for it after school when I didn't grasp a concept in class.

There are two advanced classes; my advanced class is full of Extension Maths kids but the other advanced class is with people that just take advanced which I heard are merging for Year 12.

I was wondering if anyone could pass me advice for if they think it is possible for me to catch up on the advanced course within the next 2 week holidays or if it would be better to drop down to standard and get a high ATAR scaling based on that? I could learn the advanced material alongside standard material when I'm interested but that wouldn't give the qualifications for Uni. I also don't have a tutor/am unsure how the tutoring system works so any advice on that would be appreciated.

FYI, I do take physics and I intend to work in STEM/IT so advanced maths knowledge is important, but I'm not sure if I want to go through the hassle of taking bridging courses in Uni. :/

ur delusional to think uni would be easier. at uni im pretty sure u start at extension 2 level. besides, even if ur atar is slightly less from doing advanced, u still get 5 points for a band 6 at usyd and 3 points for a band 5. for unsw they changed it to be 3 points for b6 but thats cause of dei schemes

gateway, unsw college and early entry stuff. unsw has gone dei for some reason. meanwhile usyd barely has any dei schemes

unsw is diluting their prestige even without a financial incentive

I don't think I implied uni would be easier. I do understand that it is assumed knowledge to know up to extension 1, though. Didn't understand much of the second part so man, I need to catch up on how ATAR works lol

i didn't even mean this as a motivational thing btw, i'm dead serious - its literally just work ethic
i have mates who went from getting 30% in year 11 to now topping the grade lol
make note of what worked well and didn't work well this year (both study habits & your approach to maths), and revamp it next year

yeah, right now. that's cause these schemes are very recent

more intake could have been done via normal atar + hsc plus points entry. UNSW is a very high demand uni, it's impossible for a course like engineering to not be fully taken. however, the dei schemes have increased the normal entry LSR from 90 to 93 (2025 december prediction)

A large majority of the dei candidates will likely drop the course, so it doesn't even look good for unsw either
