Could've fooled me... our english teachers basically ask us our opinion, then go, 'well that's nice but you can't really write it in the essay,' then tell us what to write in the essay. :( Dunno why they bother in the first place, might as well just write the essay for us, and teach us to regurgitate it.

yeah, haha...i meant that more for social sciences but for english, general rule: no your crap, don't ever say a text is 'bad' unless you can justify it (which is pretty hard to do', learn sophisticated phrases like 'hubris' 'resonance' and 'convoluted', make sure you put in techniques & quotes, and jazz it up with some crappy size 16 handwritting- its worked for me to date :)

Hi there - I AM Sascha Morrell from FSHS, and my subjects were 3U English, 3U Modern, 3U Ancient, Art and Biology. My UAI, to correct you, was 100. I am sorry to interrupt your conversation, but I would really appreciate you removing my name and the (incorrect) reference to my subjects and results from your page. I'm not obsessed with privacy, it'd just be nice not to have this public domain. Thanks very much, please let me know when you have removed this!!!

I think doing a range of subjects can sometimes be beneficial over just picking, as people have stated, 4 unit maths and sciences. For example I chose modern history, IPT, 2 sciences and 3U Maths. I found that, having done modern first, it was much easier to focus and do well in advanced english, and it also assisted in the sciences paticularly in the longer questions where an argument/analysis is required. Having said that you should do the subjects you are interested in, and if they all come under the maths/science or english/humanity heading, then so be it.

i'm pretty specialised into 'arts' or whatever you want to call i
- 3u eng
- 2u religion
- drama
- music 1
- entertainment

i didn't do maths because i knew i wouldn't work in it, therefore not get good marks so obviously whats the point in doing a subject your going to fail?
i don't need a uai next year so it doesn't bother me about scaling, but still its crazy to do 3u maths just coz it scales well if you've been failing or not doing really well in the past *shrugs*

I picked the subjects I wanted, and was interested in:
Adv. English
Drama (there was no way in hell i wasn't gonna do Drama)
Modern History
Legal Studies
Ancient History

Drama was freaking hard, and if anyone ever told you it's a bludge, THEY LIED. I picked Bio in yr 11 but dropped it, bored me...even though i was coming top.
Modern, Legal, Drama and Adv. English are all heavy essay writing subjects, as is Ancient, but I find that Ancient is more knowledge based...regurgitating facts, so therefore it is my easiest subject. Even though all these subjects are essay subjects, and quite literal, i find that the essay writing style is very different.

BTW I leapt at the opportunity never to do maths again!!! I am so happy, cos my brain is just not mathematical.

im happy with what im doing, well balanced :) i love all my subjects, music most of all :D
O.O;

That's incredibly diverse. You must be a total genius ^.^

My subjects are listed in my sig, so I guess you can say I'm more of a sci and maths person. And yeah, my Eng does suck. Well, for adv Eng standards anyway XD

On a side note, I know there's one guy in my school who's doing no maths or sci for his HSC this year. His subjects are 4U Eng, Ancient Hist, Modern Hist, Hist Extension and Religion II.

A guy i know did 4u maths, Chemistry, Physics and 4u English - got "only" 96.something. dickhead :p

Dont choose your subjects based on which courses get a higher UAI - choose them on interest.

lol I somehow don't think you'll be getting a reply from that guy.

My subjects are pretty diverse, I actually don't think it would be possible to get much more so.

XP

I never thought I'd find myself doing 2 sci courses, esp when I didn't do all that well in sci from YR7~10. Funnily enough, apart from compulsory Eng, I was only interested in picking 4U. And I thought: "Crap, what can I pick? >.<;" Cos I'm horrible at geo and hist, no good with comps and lack creativity. So I thought to myself: "Damn, stuck with choosing science courses again..." Now, I'm glad I'm doing the sciences XD

So yeah, I lack diversity XP

As you can see from my subjects below, i'm pretty much creatively inclined. (with a lot of major works) this is better for me though cause i dont do well in tests and i'm a much more practical person.

I also do not study any maths or science.

I'm happy with my subject choices and for me, it hasnt been a disadvantage at all not doing maths or science:wave: . Next year i'm hoping to studying design or Production (for theatre) at NIDA or VCA so these subject choices really help with these type of appications.

HUMANITIES FTW!!!

I'll be writing like 18 essays in the HSC exams.

I feel very lucky not doing any maths and science. I'm one of probably 3 people in my entire school who doesn't.
