My highschool friends and I are giving up facebook for lent. Forty days, forty nights. And hopefully for beyond that thereafter. Some random friends are enforcing it because we said we'd buy them a round each time they saw any of us online/write on a wall/post a photo/any hint of onlineness etc.

Not that I am at all religious. But this is fantastic. I have a thesis to write, and four concerts to write for this semester. I need to ween myself off facebook fast.

Facebook totally ruins my life.

Are these social networking things really that addictive? I've avoided getting any sort of social networking account because I reckon I'll waste too much time on it...how is it different to talking to people normally?

...and all the privacy things I keep reading about fb creeps me out.

yes, if all your friends are on them too.

You can talk to them anytime, without the cost of calling or sms. You can set up a party or something and invite all the people you want in less than 30secs.

People are more cautious than other. I.e. Provided you have an account on fb, you can view any part of someones account if the settings are on normal (including photos). When theres crazy bitches about (refer to katie_tulley), its probably better to reduce the privacy settings.

The mass amounts of bandwidth the 16 year old girls take with their sparkly text and background, mountains upon mountains of pics/spam etc, and having massive trouble to merely post a comment.

yup and the sad thing is, you'll see older people doing that as well

facebook > myspace

it all depends on what ur friends are using, i have a myspace and facebook, but more of my friends are on myspace, so I am inclined to use myspace more

theyre both good if u have plenty of friends to communicate with, share photos etc

interesting blog. u have the same interests as me. i will keep track of your blog, and steal project ideas as my own, as i have become too lazy to learn technological dealings nowadays. i dont like wordpress though. i suggest you download a CSS book from www.ebookee.com and learn CSS designing. It's a valuable skill.
I'll look into that :p
