You "train" it by running it down until it hibernates. I tried it once. I was up until midnight doing a ritual dance in front of the webcam because I figured it was the quickest way to make the battery die <_<

Haha. How long did that take you to run it down? I'm typing on it now and I'm not used to it. Did you install Firefox or any commonly used programs on it? How did it go?

But yes, I put OpenOffice on it, along with Firefox (Porbale), AVG and all the other stuff. It's fine though the RAM is still a bit low. I may uninstall a few crapware things they installed like Norton Antivirus and whatnot.

I'm charging it for 15 hours.
Then I'll see what happens when I let it ruin on battery power. How long was your first charge?

Do you mean 'Portable'? Why would you install that on your netbook? Wouldn't you install that on something like a USB key? Haha, I'd go for AVAST! Yeah, I notice when I open more tabs in IE8 it lags a bit. I hate crapware.

But yes... Firefox Portable (how the heck did I mange to misspell that...). I put it on a USB then copied the files onto the desktop so that I didn't have to plug in the USB whenever I wanted to use Firefox. Avast, eh? Is it... good?

So you probably charged it at least 12 hours too for your first charge.
Um, couldn't you have just installed the standard Firefox program on your netbook and install Firefox (Portable) on a USB key? Was there a reason for what you did? I'd like to know.
Yeah, I've been using AVAST on my main laptop for a while.
Works great and you can schedule all sorts of scans to run. I'd recommend it to you.

I totally forgot about installing OpenOffice on mine! Now I have to wait till off-peak times to download it.

I had Portable already so I just put it on. I'm lazy.

Avast is decent. I'm on MSE at the moment, which I prefer.

After your first semester you will realise a laptop at uni is pretty pointless for the most part.

It is an anti-virus program.

Actually, I've heard of this one recently and I think I'll give it a try. I heard it's really 'light' on system resources. hence making it a good choice for netbooks.

MSE is pretty rad at detecting aids on my PC br8

though I used to religiously use NOD, don't really have much of a need for a heavy duty virus scanner with W7 on my gaming machine

Well, if you're mindful enough of what you browse and download you seriously have no need for an AV. I don't remember seeing a NOD32 virus notification in months. But better safe than sorry I guess.
