People do Math for interest. People do other things for employment like what's already been mentioned accounting, actuarial, finance, etc.

Btw if I end up at UNSW I still need to figure out how to get onto the question writing committee... I'll ask u abt it sooner to the time though.

maths is a versatile and challenging degree to get . it's just difficult to compare the quality of degrees across different unis (the math schools vary quite a bit in size and strength). you could do a masters which i think would be good for programmer/analyst positions.
