Ok, I will give you another piece of advice: choose your best subjects (in terms of interst and performance). It is important to get enough UAI for Law degrees. Law degrees usually require UAIs around 99 (in USYD and UNSW) and a bit lower in other universities. There are no assumed knowledge so don't worry about that.

Seconding the above, although I wouldn't recommend anything less than English Advanced.

i don't actually do law but there are NO prerequisites if you want to do law at university. (this guy who's a law lecturer at macquarie uni came in to our school yesterday to talk to us about law). however, if you're doing a combined law degree i.e. law and engineering for example, there might be prerequisite subjects for the other major. Like for engineering you need i think 3 unit maths and physics (??) . this is important cos a lot of uni's offer combined law degrees vs. just bachelor of laws.
but as many of law degrees require pretty (scarily) high uai's (cos they're so popular), my advice is to take the subjects that you do well in or you enjoy doing in order to get the best marks you can to maximise your chances of getting in. don't play the scaling game where you take physics, 4 unit maths etc. etc. just because they supposedly 'scale' well and then end up hating them and also sucking at them... unless you actually like physics and 4unit maths or are good at them... ^^
anyway, you can always go to law school later i.e. doing graduate law school after you get a degree in something else. supposedly that's what the law guy who came to our school in did... he was an accountant for ages until he went back and did law school. law is a degree that doesn't need specialised knowledge first.

legal studies and advanced english.
...wtf? :read:

only a few law students i know have done legal studies. it is certainly not a prereq. nor does it preclude one from doing well in their law degree.

legal studies =/= pre-LLB course.

i didnt say it was but if she is interested in law then doing legal studies sounds logical. it was just a recommendation.

with respect, i disagree...

as the earlier posts urge, i think the most important part, if the OP wants to get into law, is to do subjects which will get her the necessary UAI. admission into law school is highly competitive.

unless the OP is interested in the substantive content of legal studies, i wouldn't even recommend legal as a subject to do.

As above. Do what interests you and what suits your ability. Thats the best advice you will receive as it will maxmise your marks, do not fall for the 'Do it because it scales well crap' it wont if you bomb out! Take it from someone who didn't do maths, science or history and was happy with their UAI and happily studying law.

If you only do standard English it will be ok as you will pick up the skills you need when you start as everyone needs to learn the skills to read and write the law and most uni's offer essay writing courses and courses that help you develop better English skills, just do what you are comfortable with.

Good luck and remember there are alternative pathways into law and I know heaps of great law students who didn't get in first time!
