What lucky people... sounds mental 😂 55/50!
What out of 50 final score do you think I would end up with this year?
It’s a completely different exam (VCE not HSC). I think it’s to make the moderation and alignment fair-ish so that those who get really high marks get rewarded idk. Our friends in Victoria also don’t “discard” their spare units, they actually add a tiny increment from the mark so your “effort” isn’t completely wasted.

Specialist maths is a different animal altogether but with the addition of vectors this year I’d say it’s most similar to 3U maths with an extended scope from what I’ve seen

yeah, same! hopefully atar and ucat can score me an interview, but its been so long since I've had an interview...
Good to hear mate! I can relate, haven’t sat an interview in a while, I’m gonna do some prep courses in the hopes that I get an interview . Sadly in the UCAT I only managed a 95th percentile but hopefully with a good atar I can still get an offer

Fair enough mate, it all ends up at the same place! I’d still put it on your uac though, you never know! Sometimes you can view yourself too harshly

I'm aiming for Civil Engineering because it covers construction/project management as well i hope?? Construction Management was my ideal course but since this course covers both, why not knock two birds with one stone.
There’s also an engo and project management double degree at USyd if that’s what you’re into

Oh damn I didn't know this, but I heard from my brothers that UNSW and UTS have a better chance at getting a job for Engi upon graduation, that was why I wasn't looking at USyd, but i'll be sure to keep that in mind. Thanks!

Specialist Mathematics in VCE actually goes further than the HSC courses in certain parts of Mechanics (e.g. momentum) and Statistics (e.g. hypothesis testing). The real distinguishing feature of the HSC course is the Nature of Proof topic (and maybe circle geometry as well but that's no longer in the syllabus).

HSC maths (at the more advanced levels) has traditionally leaned towards the "pure" end of the spectrum, until this recent syllabus change which rebalances it towards the "applied" end of the spectrum. VCE maths has been very "applied" focused for ages. They had vectors in their syllabus long before they were brought into this new HSC syllabus.
