Who do you think is the greatest satirist?

My vote would have to go to Jonathan Swift (for Gulliver's Travels, a satirical elegy, the beast's confession etc), but I would give a second to Alexander Pope for the Dunciad.

Mayb not GREATEST. but Jane Austen cerainly wrote some ith some very withering satire in some of her books (a lot compared to other ppl in her era anyways).

Northanger Abbey is brilliant satire. Takes a couple of reads to realize, but the social satire, the literary satire, it's so well done and despite the time differences, it's really quite funny.
