If people have a problem with each other at university it is more likely to be a difference of opinion than anything related to the way they look, speak or act. At uni the differences in appearance are completely irrelevant - people are interested in your mind, your opinions, your theories, your arguments. If someone can make a valid point in a tutorial, nobody cares where they come from or anything of the sort. I think the bullying doesn't really exist at uni because uni is an intellectual environment and the people are mature enough to understand that everyone is entitled to hold and express their opinions.
Having said that, at melbourne uni the Socialist Alternative get a bit of shit, but it's all light-hearted! Even then, people use logic and reasoning and arguments to make their point, not snide comments about their appearance etc.
