I found the half of her time on Denton's 'Enough Rope' that i actually saw extremely interesting.

She's nothing like the media represents her. She's not intelligent, i conceed that but damn she's not a bad person. Bad people are obvious... They're overtly evil, its obvious.

Pauline is not. She's a normal woman. Nothing more, nothing less. Normal views, fair views.

She's not a politican at heart either, that's also obvious. They can at least string together sentences that are coherent and sometimes intelligent. She may not be able to, but she seems to be a good person.

Did anyone else catch it? (I assume Ziff did) If so, what did they think?

ONLY POST IF YOU WATCHED IT.

no i don't to be honest. i don't think she has really thought through her ideas very well. she is obviously not very bright and her arguments seem illogical and make no sense at all. besides being xenophobic i don't think she really knows what she stands for.

her ideas are great in theory, but for one key issue

she doesn't want australian culture to disappear, she wants everyone to assimilate, but she wants everyone to assimilate to HER PERCEPTION of what Australia is - which is largely what her lifestyle is. The 'typical Australia' is really whatever you make it because it's so multicultural. Maybe Australia should end up more Asian overall, I mean, we're pretty damn close to Asia in geographic terms (I'm not Asian by the way, I'm Anglo, just like her).

She isn't racist. Twisted, you seem like you'd be pretty easy to convince of anything. All it took was one interview and 'wham', you're a Pauline Hanson lover. You need to think about the various arguments more.

She has some good intentions, like she's game to confront various Aboriginal issues, but ultimately, she's got some pretty unreasonable aspirations.

HAHAHAHAHA.
Pauline Hanson lover. No. I give all articles, reports and interviews the same amount of credibility.

She's not a good politician... all i'm saying is she comes across as a normal person, no hidden agenda, unlike Howard and Latham. Hell, if she ever got power she'd make a hell of a lotta mistakes, but at least we'd know about them, right?

On the flipside, i dont think she belongs in the House of Reps... but the Senate is well suited to her politican ambition.

I'm not saying her theories are great. I'm saying they're valid.... perhaps, buddy, it is you that is the Hanson lover, no?

Damn you forum whores say some weird things. I wanted to know reactions, i didnt wanna see blame-shifting, mudraking or personal attacks. Theres no reason for it.

Asqy, Pauline Hanson and One Nation both have a lot of support, contrary to what you think. For people especially in the country Hanson offers a sort of respite from what they've seen as an abandonment by the major parties since the days of Mabo.

ie: In polling in QLD for the senate, Pauline got 20%, and one nation scored about 25% (not sure about the exact stats).

I would never vote for Hanson, but I think its disgusting the way in which many have tried to quash her.

I have respect for her, even if she isn't a very bright woman. She speaks her mind, despite what she's gone through, and i respect that.

Oh, and Not Enough Rope is a very good show btw :)

Absolutely correct. I felt sorry for the poor women, she was being torn apart by Denton's questions and they wern't even that tough. I think Denton felt sorry for her. When she said that she didn't like the way migrants wouldn't assimilate, and that they 'want to turn this country into the place they came from' she set herself up for a massive cutdown- I was just waiting for Denton to ask 'so you advocate a monocultural Australia', but he didn't! Hanson's problem is that she thinks the mainstream Australian culture is that of Ipswich, QL. Which would be very diturbing if it was.

Anybody else notice how she skirted around the question after the film of the Vietnamese girl was played?. She just brought it back to Aboriginals.

On Aboriginals, I do think Hanson made a valid point. She doesn't think anybody in Australia deserves better or worse treatment depending on his or her race. THis was easy for the media to paint as rascism as it did involve stripping Aboriginals of their welfare benefits. Personnaly, I think ABoriginals deserve their welfare because of what we put them through in the 1800's, but this is what I think drew so much of her support in the 90's- poor working class white family's were disgruntled at the benefits Aboriginals receive, who earn similar incomes as the poor whites.

Yes, I think this would be a prudent time for everyone to read a few things on race relations in Australia...

I like the way Denton stings interviewees that he doesn't like at the end. What did he say? "May you always keep learning" or something.
Im not sure she has a right to attempt to run the country if she's as narrow-minded and naieve as she appears "Most of my advice comes from my dad", "Immigrants and Aboriginals must assimilate to our australian society, or there may be a civil war" and "I never saw any immigrants or Aboriginals when i was growing up". The fact that she couldn't answer whether she still believes Aboriginals are disadvantaged and showed apparent remorse at footage of her earlier self, casts doubts about her credibility.
She seems to have not bothered to pose questions and learn compassion and tolerance at an early age and decided to lay her half-baked views in cement...seriously, if she were any more narrow-minded, her earings would bang together when she walks.

Even if around 20% of the population supported her (scary as that may be) surely the essence of democracy is respect for the minorities, not rule by the majorities...She's already done enough damage to Australia's reputation; there is no place for her in Canberra.

The reason why such facist groups such as hansons one nation manage to gain power is due to an unhappy middle-class male workforce which feels although their views are lost on the major centralised political parties... This was also the case with the Hitler's nazi's.

That's probably why we need a socialist group with some greater power to make sure that the rights of the middle-class workforce are a centrepeice of the major parties policies.
this is why we need socialism

I was going to start a thread on this.

Anyway, I watched the interview, only because I was waiting for Dave Hughes. Though I'm glad I did watch the interview.
I agree with one of her baser beliefs, that every citizen black or white, pink or people, is first and foremost Australian. She was trying to get people to understand that being Aboriginal alone should not be an excuse for any special provision.
If your a poor aboriginal then your simply considered as equal to everyone else in your socio-economic band, and everyone of that band recieves the same recognition and benefits.
She didn't want a divided Australia, she wanted Australia to be truly one. Her stance on immigrants was that so long as they refused to become part of Australian society, then they should go home, back to the type of life they wanted so much.

I did think it was a blatant attack, out of fear, by the major parties to destroy someone who was a threat because she was gaining rapid support, and because she didn't just recycle the same bullshit.

I think her decision to run for the Senate is because she wants to make a difference, albeit even a small one. In the Senate she may very well hold the balance of power and thus she would have the power to prevent any Bills she didn't like from becoming laws. After all, trying to straight out run this country had proved a detrimental decision especially when the major parties used decietful tactics against her.

The media skewered her. Her words, and her image was completely distorted. Probably those who control the media didn't like what she was saying.

Over all, I think Pauline Hanson is a misunderstood woman
