see title, yes i did a thorough search and no i couldn't find any results

i can't really think of too many right now, but the ones that stand out are
jeff buckley - hallelujah (leonard cohen) ... i didn't like cohen's version. jeff really makes the song his own, it's absolutely beautiful.

tori amos - a case of you (joni mitchell)

pearl jam - last kiss (j. frank wilson)

goldfinger - 99 red balloons
pennywise - down under
joey ramone - what a wonderful world

Johnny Cash made Nine Inch Nails look like dweebs with Hurt.

Patti Smith's Gloria is pretty bloody awesome.

Velvet Revolver covering the Sex Pistols'-Bodies is excellent, Rage Against the Machine covering anything is usually better than the original (Renegades of Funk, Maggie's Farm, In My Eyes and pretty much the rest of Renegades)
Refused - Let's Go Crazy, covering Prince is very good
Sublime covering anything
And yeah...some of these aren't actually better than the originals so I'll shut up now

Johnny Cash American IV
I love all the American Recordings (well, three of them), but I don't think IV was the greatest. My ranking would be I, II, IV then III. It's still great, with Hurt, In My Life and We'll Meet Again especially standing out, but I don't think the album would be touching American Recordings as being amongst my favourite Cash album (At Folsom Prison being a close second).

Madonna - American Pie

Desperado from IV is also a great cover, it's a great change from piano to guitar.

I'm sure you know that there'll be a film about Cash releasing soon called Walk The Line?

mmm, i love muse's "feeling good". i love their cover of "cant' take my eyes off you" as well!

ryan adam's wonderwall irked me... but my friend says it grows on you.

ooh i think i heard scissor sisters "take me out" on triple J last year... is it slow-ish?

and darren hayes' live version of "lost without you" at the arias pwns delta. i didn't really like that song until he sang it... yes, i like darren hayes and savage garden :p

ahh yes., very tambourine-y and acoustic. i hated it but only because i have a (secret) obsession with the band who sang the original ;)

i love the pictures version of "milkshake" by kelis?
oh and the camels "cant take my eyes off you" where the trombone is replaced with "do do do do...." etc etc

HIM'S cover of Turbonegro's 'Rendezvous with Anus" is unreal... and the Nirvana version of Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" on the Unplugged in New York CD

i don't get why everybody thinks that cash's cover of hurt is better than the original

it's one of the weakest cuts on the album, the production on the nin track is really interesting
