So I've browsed another set of forums and the term 'burning out' has come up quite a bit. Apparently the idea for most people in this year's HSC is to "study as much as you can with all notes and syllabus points and mindmaps" etc etc, but at the same time to "make sure you don't burn out too early because you will suck at study when you do".

I would still like to do more, but I'm restricted due to time constraints

Umm 3 hours for what you're doing is more than enough...I suggest you should work quicker and everyday before you start studying make a plan of what you're going to do on that day. Anymore than 3 hours a day will burn you out
With different opinions flying left right and centre, which is the general agreed idea on the proper workload?

Obviously, answers will vary from person to person (NERR I STUDY DIFFERENT TO U LOLOL?), but I'm mainly trying to clear up the mixed messages that are being sprawled out on several threads.

Discuss.

Consistency and continuity is the key. It's as simple as that. Moderation is also essential. Study hard, but study smart. The HSC is a marathon, not a sprint.

Couldn't have said it better. Pretty spot on for an 09er.

I feel violated
Well, it's up to the person, isn't it?
I can handle the amount I work, and it's been working fine so far
If I do start to feel as if I'm 'burning out':burn: , then I'll just reduce my study time
In any case, I'm about to go to a HSC advice day thingo at school, so I'll get some advice there:read:

2:00 hours for Math Ext2 ...

and i twice a week, i study english instead of Business, so total of 5 hours per day...

I think i am fine with this at the moment, tho i feel lyk i need to study more cuz most of my friends in my MX2 class have almost finished Ext2 course with their tutors alrdy =_=//

Honestly, Yes, its vital to study... and you guys are started at a great time BUT, the reason why these kids are burning out ( I admit I majorly burnt out after so many exams at the same time) is there not giving themselves a social life. It is UTTERLY important that at least one day a week you give yourself a break, do anything... even just sitting on the couch and watch tv or sleep. Basically if you guys wanna do really well do a subject per night e.g. you do 10 units = 5 subjects so therefore each night for 2 hours do one topic. and then 2 nights off. :) Best of luck guys.

But don't overwork yourself.

I didn't do shit in Year 11 lol.
My marks improved in Year 12.

If I was in Year 11 now, I would study 3 hours a week, not 3 hours a night, unless I needed a 99 UAI.

tbh in the first two terms i did about 3 hrs a WEEK,
maybe a little more if i had an assessment.
in the hols before trials i did 4-5 hrs a day, and then 3 a day during the exams....
and then when it got to the real hsc i was doing 4-5 hrs for the 2nd week of hols and first 2 weeks of exams
now i'm that sick of it that i barely studied for physics, or chemistry and i really should have.
so even if it doesn't seem like much you might still "burn out"
just be really aware of how you're feeling in your self, and your mind, and stay happy.
and definitely keep socialising on the weekends it was my saviour

Make sure your study is effective.
You can spend 5 hours a night studying, but if it's not working, then change it.
