No worries.

Did anyone else notice the change in heading from "Budgeted Fees" (last year) to just "Fees"?

I can't imagine losing CBA to PwC would be beneficial to EY's revenue

I thought EY still dealt with CBA on some issues, as that is what was indicated by the firm at the assessment centre

Yes, but they've lost the audit...so no amount of consulting/tax work will make up the shortfall in revenue.

I meaning the Audit, which is unusual, because PwC had stated they just got the CBA Audit, but EY were stating there would be independence issues with CBA if you met the criteria for auditor independence jeopardy (which I only though applied if the audit client is a current audit client)

thx, can you please explain more about the reasons behind being non disclosing entity/partnership structure? although all the big 4s are large business entities, however they all exist in partnership form.

Not sure if you've studied financial reporting standards and disclosure requirements but basically the gist is, if a company is incorporated and has shareholders whom are seperate from management (i.e. the people who run the company are different people to those who actually own it) then there is a general requirement to prepare financial standards in line with accounting standards and have them externally audited. I know there's a more technical answer to this question but I'm not in the mood to think and I doubt it'd add value anyway.

Anyway, Big4 are partnerships whereby the owners are partners who own a stake in the business but also work/run/manage it. Whilst there may be internal reports/statistics available (which there probably are), they are not required to be disclosed publicly and hence the BRW surveys rely on voluntary contribution of revenue/headcount/etc... there may also be an internal review process (which there probably is) but again, their findings are not required to be disclosed publicly.

That being said, the reality is, Big4s have very specialised/complex structures which are not as plain and simple as you'd expect. I won't even bother going into detail but if you're curious, have a look at the various letterheads used on different audit opinions (compare a fund to a normal company for example), and then compare to the name of who (or what) pays the employees' salaries.

Re: BRW Top 100 Accounting Firms 2007

Since BRW just published it's 2008 Accounting Firms Top 100 list I thought I'd share it;

LOW RESOLUTION for DIAL-UP USERS

HIGHER RESOLUTION FOR BROADBAND USERS (much better quality as requested)

BUY THE MAGAZINE FOLKS. It's worth it. But that being said it's no longer for sale in newsagents so you'll have to backorder it if you want to read the articles :) Interestingly enough one of the questions they asked all four of the Big4 CEO's was what they thought of the partnership model (i.e. as opposed to incorporating an accounting firm).

ps. to save you opening the image if you only want to see the Big4; (rank, firm, revenue for 07-08, growth, number of partners, revenue per partner)
1. PwC 1.408bn, 11.75%, 450, 3,128,889
2. KPMG 1.007bn, 12.43%, 404, 2,492,574
3. EY 960m, 11.89%, 394, 2,436,548
4. Deloitte 764m, 25.04%, 397, 1,924,433
