I'd like to pitch a negative vote for Cambridge. >_>

Its very unappealing with its mass walls of text, confusing theory explanations, and I find the questions to be pretty bad too.

But hey, thats just me. A lot of people seem to like it. :\

I dont believe in textbooks. They did me nothing all year just got me bored and lazy. Past papers all the way.

terry lee overall.

patel - not enough on harder 3U esp perms and combs which it has none
cambridge - too much text, lack of harder Qs, explanation is shit
fitzpatrick - good in some bits like conics, polys and harder 3U.

i grew quite attached to dear old fitzpatrick. the examples are brilliant, the questions get a bit hard in some cases though [ie mechanics]. but geha's 50 tips is just the holy grail of maths books.. has taught me almost everything i know [in 4u]!! ;)

i use terry lee
i reckon its a real good textbook, but he tends to make huge jumps between lines, and do unneccesary manipulations just to show off

but the worked solutions were a life saver

Cambridge only negative is that it doesn't have harder questions and thats a BIG negative.

Terry Lee has hard questions, but some are just too hard that will never come up in the HSC.

One thing I will say: ALL 4u TEXTBOOKS DO NOT FOLLOW HSC FORMAT.

I found Fitzpatrick covered conics absolutely shit, just waffles on about this random shit and doesn't cover eveything in the syllabus (theres only like 1/2 a page on rectangular hyperbola, doesn't have prperties etc) Though the questions are decent. Cambridge was much better for conics IMO (for the theory).

From what I hear:
1. Cambridge (got that :D)
2. Terry Lee (buying that)
3. Patel (school gives)
4. Fitz (stealing off the library for 1 year)
why on earth do you need 4 text books
no offence but its very unnecessary
just learn the theory and do the excercises then do past hsc questions

Well i had 4 textbookks, found it really useful coz when i couldn't understand one thing from fitz, i could look it up in one of the others.

I'm planning to get 4unit fitzpatrick (borrowed from library), 4unit Cambridge (main textbook) and 4unit Terry Lee (optional, not sure to buy it)
