Re: 2009 Macquarie Uni Offers

Fair enough. Well could you help me find where on earth I find out what subjects are recomended for 1st year B Commerce? Because i looked in the handbook but it doesnt really make sense to me and i just need some sort of recommended subjects to do.

I hate being confused lol

i think u might find this helpful.....i've been asking the same question, and got this answer- ECON110, ACST101, STAT170, ACCG100. Apparently these are the ones that are usually taken.

but as op's have said.....u should reserach into what you are interested in an kinda base it on that

what do you do about timetable clashes? i keep finding that my various lectures are clashing...i think i read somewhere that the academic advisers sort this out at enrollment or something?
Core units shouldn't have clashing lectures, what units are clashing?

um some examples are:
anth110 clashes with phil131 (which is most annoying).
wst110 with stat170.
the other stat170 lecture class option with psy105 and phil131.

first semester worked out okay though, after i cut gmn104 since it clashed with psy104.

Ok, so if elective classes clash, that's your problem :)

Most people usually prioritise the core lecture, and just skip/ilecture the other.

Yep, core units are your 'required' units for the degree you're enrolled in.

And no, not every lecture has ilecture, some lecturers choose not to, as it lowers people turning up to classes, but most do, they'll tell you usually in the first week or two of lectures if they do.

hmm so in that case i shouldn't plan on scheduling clashing units? since maybe they won't have ilecture, and in any case i won't be there to find out i guess! ahh this is annoying.

Usually its not a good idea, but some people really want to do the units and there are ways around it

Psych and stat units should have ilecture. Drop the course convenor an email to check - I used to. I did many clashing subjects and I recommend it if you really do want to do certain subjects and you know you will keep up with the ilectures. Rather than ilecturing my core subject, I ilectured the easiest / the one that I didn't need to follow examples (I liked going to stat, rather than listening to it).

Just in relation to having timetable clashes... if a subject is offered during both the day (as two lectures and one tut) and evening (as only a two-hour seminar), is the same content still being covered? I didn't really understand why it came up like that on the Grid Timetable

Well what major do you want to do? Do you want to be CPA accreditted, etc. It's kinda like asking, what subjects you'd do in an Arts degree, we don't really know if you don't tell us more information.

I feel so stupid because i keep asking questions.

Well basically atm i have no idea what i want to do so i was hoping to do a variety of subjects so i can figure out what im interested in. At the moment i think im interested in Marketing + Demography but im not really sure.

What is CPA accreddited mean?

(again, sorry for asking so many questions)

Don't feel stupid because you're asking questions, that's what this period is for :)

CPA from what I know, is the accreditation for becoming an Accountant, and so to fulfill this, you need to follow a stricter set of units/progression:

BCom-Accg - Bachelor of Commerce-Accounting - Faculty of Business and Economics - Macquarie University

It's worth keeping in mind if you want to go down that path, as I hear it is very strictly adhered to, and deviations are problematic, but that's second hand advice as I've never been an accounting student :)

As for Marketing and Demography, your study plan looks like:

Program of Study - 2009 Course Handbook - Macquarie University

oh also, since im not sure what i want to do, do you think its a good idea for my first year to do a variety of subjects (bit of mkting bit of acct, bit of ecos) and then in my 2nd year figure out what i want to major in?
That's something for you to figure out, personally I did a year in a BArts before transferring into a B Media (and had done no previous media subjects) so it may be that you might spend this first year 'dipping your toes in' so to speak.
