    Po-Mo Liberal humanism...help URGENTLY needed

From my understanding of it, liberal humanism (also known as practical criticism) is a conventional and dominant way of thinking and approaching texts. I always considered the values of humanism as the opposites of pomo - ie humanist/canonical literature is valued for its linguistic and...

Utopia's pretty dull but i guess it raises those political, social and philosophical (?) questions. you've probably heard/seen parrallels to this world elsewhere and it's often compared to 1984 and Brave New World etc. haven't read Da Vinci but should be an easy read. other books - Lolita...

    ease of internal transfer?

i was wondering if internal transfers occur easily ie. if you have a very good chance of transfering if you wanted to. Considering that i dont think i would be able to get into optometry, if i do b. science and do pretty well in it, would it be possible to transfer without a problem?

Does anyone watch foreign movies in here (especially French, Italian, German etc)? I never really like the SBS channel but after normal movies and im too lazy to get off the couch, I switch to it. I find foreign films fascinating - they have a maturity and subtlety with their odd humour and...

are we allowed to use abbreviations in the hsc?

what? are u going to lose marks for abbreviation? as long ur writing is fluent and the markers know what u are talking, i dont think they'll discriminate against ur shorthand. and i dont think abbreviations show ur laziness, we only have 40min to communicate all ur important ideas.

PoMo - do u believe in it?

i agree with gemita and tommywatts. pomo is not completely nihilistic: the postmodern approach encourages more open interpretations of reality, recoginising the contradictions and hidden ideologies. I view my reality and beliefs as a cultural/social construct but i don't feel useless. i have...

    Philosophy

no doubt people would want to find the meaning of life but philosophy only offers questions not answers (well the answers they give arent necessarily life changing) and im pretty sure everyone asks these questions some stage of their life . . . so why are philosphers valourised as intellectuals...

    Philosophy

perhaps not quite philosophy, but the absurdist works of beckett, camus and satre are interesting. generally, i find philosophy rather annoying - and not because i dont understand it or feel threatened by it. i think its intellectual pretentious (not that im discrediting the intelligence of...

PoMo - do u believe in it?

having being immersed in postmodernism for more than 6months now, i wonder what u guys think of it. Espescially the people who are deeply religious - what do u make of pomo? A load of crap? can the principles of pomo coexist with religious belief? This chick in my class absolutely hates pomo but...
