Out of curiosity, how many of you wish you could study a continual assessment system (best 3.2 semesters, each semester you are given assignments and exams and you work over the course of 2 years to improve your grades) or instead enjoy the HSC?

I'm an ex-sydney student who took my prelims in sydney, and transferred to Canberra to get higher marks because I thought constant homework was better than one exam that would determine my ATAR. Curious on the inputs of current HSC students.

The current HSC allows people to easily come back from bad results, and gives the "once lazy, now working very very hard" i.e. reformed students a chance to get a good ATAR. (this part is probably a bit too skewed) It also award those who are good at rote (bar maths) and taking it seriously only when assignments come up. This is my opinion and I could probably stretch it a bit more, but it's all I can think of right now.

Your system rewards already intelligent students, and make improvement throughout the year far less relevant.

Those two were the main criteria I tried to follow when writing my creative - like, before I started writing, I went through every point in the rubric to make sure I would be able to address it if it were to come up. The only part of the rubric I didn't really address in detail was cultural/historical contexts but I doubt that would really be asked lol. Rip if it does get asked tho just gonna bs my way through it :')

Would only recommend the latter if you're confident you'd be able to pull it off in the exam. At least, I'd suggest having a brief outline of what you might write so you're no completely lost on the day.

honestly now that i think about it module b is kind of ridiculous. the fact they can specify ANY speech (even the new ones), yet expect great knowledge on their context, themes explored, cohesiveness, analysis (numerous quotes + techniques) is annoying af.

really gonna be absolutely rekd if they specify one im not completely ready for I think. Btw do they include a small sample/quote from it always or no?

and to those memorising essays, are you memorising some quotes as well just in case some parts of your analysis dont suit the question? I'm personally doing so for Tempest and Brave New world where I actually have 20+ quotes/pieces of analysis. ( I dont think it will help much for BNW but for discovery's its helped in trials because I was able to also oppose the statement because of it if i remember correctly)

Answer to that is, I know my prepared essays for AOS & Mod A/B/C without any extra quotes.

Only extra quotes I did was for Mod B but that was just having a sheet of paper with a deep analysis of all the soliloquies.

What's an example that ppl would include?

I think having sufficient detail pertaining to the specific culture and general societal values/beliefs within the time period the creative is set in would be enough. This is where my creative is relatively weak lol - I didn't put that much detail bc honestly it's a waste of words HAHAHA if it gets asked, will probs just really define the setting to iron out my introduction then leave it at that.

fml cant find my trials section 3 for some reason (as in the physical copy, i typed it up to check the word count and see any obvious errors like a month or 1.5 ago and now cant find it), but can find the comprehension even lmao. I have no clue where it went honestly... ( I just wanted to check back on feed back, IIRC it was mainly about shortness of my related text and it was 14/15)

anyone that did catholic trials? if so could you tell me vaguely what the discovery question was? (cant remember)

I don't know what the question is exactly but it was about the way discoveries can transform an individual's life

I'm doing 2: DBNP & Hymne. My teacher said they're too similar/popular so she suggested changing my poem. I'm not sure whether I should since it's the essay I've been using for more than half the year. I didn't even get time to do 2 poems in trials so I don't have an accurate indication.

Well I'm glad I didn't do constant assessment over 2 years.... my grades would've been worse of for sure.

"Discovery has the power to transform individual lives." How is this idea represented in your prescribed text and at least ONE other text of your choosing.

im doing 4 but i dont really have note for this module and it was my weakest so id be happy with 15 (my trial mark) also last question was about life so i wouldnt be shocked if its about mortality this time though my 3rd/4th paragraphs are basically about how to solve existential plight but im sure I could twist words somehow. So I've remembered this word for word (at least the analysis) and can't really use anything else except maybe some stuff I may just remember from annotating it at the start of the year. And for 1 of my poems the analysis is like only 1-2 techniques.

same, but I think its better in a lot of ways. It teaches good consistency and balance in life that can be used in the future as well

I almost forgot. Is it necessary to have quotes/references to specific productions?

Our teacher literally told us on the last week that we should refer to productions. I'm guessing it is more necessary for textual integrity focused questions.

lol i didnt physically write at all today, im surprisingly calm but will probably freak out if its 2 related texts, after the exam or tomorrow. the only hours i work well is mid day tbh after that it just goes to shit.

i edited some of my mod B stuff to good use though and slightly my discovery essay. i wrote yesterday.


probably gonna do a past paper tomorrow and read over my modules essays, and try to be arsed to study for speeches.




Im so behind on speeches. I havent begun memorising ANYTHING for 4/7 speeches (I've done Sadat and Keating, my go too's and Deane I've done but I am most likely not even gonna try remembering because I can't write well with it and its not gonna be specified for sure).

I got all resources like quotes and shit but may change them will have to see, i know atwood and pearson like 50% but if its lessing or brooks this module will be fked for me because imo their more limited in what they can link to and as it stands I got 0 prep for them.
