fuark, then my life is ruined. i am perfect at manual at NFS, lol. How do you learn manual in real life, is there some class/course you have to attend or is it just buy a manual car and learn from experience?
There are driving lessons for manual, but look around on YouTube first to get a rough idea of what to do.

Also, if your current car has it, try playing around with the semi auto function. It'll give you a rough idea of when to change gears for different scenarios ie: uphill, high traffic, yellow light (haha)

oh yea, my dads car has that thing, he use's it when going uphill and downhill.

No. I've done semi-auto but in no way is it as different to an auto.

The reason why most cars come out with the semi-auto function is to prolong their future life. Manual transmissions are much better than auto's when the engine has clocked over 150000kms, because the torque converter is not as efficient in terms of fuel consumption as a manual. Also, to prevent strain on the engine, manual is best. So to prevent the use of the whole manual motion, many cars come in semi-auto for the reason of prolonging the vehicle life.

As a Subaru enthusiast I would say BRZ. Though they are very similar and all other differences between them can be customised if need be by your Subaru or Toyota dealer.

ijimmy, you are doing it all wrong.

Firstly, the 86/BRZ is fitted with a similar engine to a normal impreza, except it has a higher power to torque ratio than an impreza. Also, I think there is some type of mod that Toyota did to the 2L 4-boxer.

The reason why many people buy 86's/BRZ's is because they expect a lot from its low price.

However, you should expect how much you have spent on the car.

For that extra power many sacrifices are made. You no longer have the AWD drivetrain (this depends on your preference as some may prefer a RWD for certain uses), which lowers the production cost (Keep in mind that its an FR too, unlike the RR's that are found in the German boxer engines). Also, the car is lowered to the point that it will get scraped at every single speed bump you go over (again this is based on preference).
What use are you looking for in this car?
I mean you may be better off getting a stock WRX, or if you are looking for smooth performance, then a liberty or outback may do.
The BRZ would be able to launch just slightly better than a liberty or outback (I've tried it before).

The liberty GT or 3.6 variant (also for outback) would out perform the BRZ/86 anyday, but these cost more. Again I must point out that you get what you pay for. No more, no less.

Unfortunately the RX8 is out of production now, which I would say is a much better choice than the BRZ/86.

Depends what you want though, a gti is a completely different car to an 86. I would go the GTI out of those options however they're are much better options if you consider slightly used cars (e.g 1-2 yr old with low km's) such as a this R.

You would also save a shit load on depreciation, that car was upwards of 60-70k new.

I'm bad with that. And people never realise my sarcasm either.

That's a good idea but I doubt iJimmy is old enough to be on P's.

Also, I think iJimmy maybe has to look at the market more before buying them.

If you go to auctions, you will be able to find a BRZ/86 a year old or GTI 2-3 years old for less than 28k (I went and saw a GTI go for 26k).

Btw, you can get a WRX STI that is 3 years old and done around 50000kms for around 40k, which is a much better option trust me.


And if its your first car, you are bound to sell it in a few years (unless you are like me and enjoy the durability of old subies), so to avoid losing around ten grand in a few years, just go for something cheap.

i only drove the 86 gt, was pretty shit imo, just loved the exterior look haha. might go to VW next week

No probably L's and parents will use it until full's (I knew a kid whose dad bought an R34 GTR for him, but then sold it a few months later unknowledgeable of the P-plate restrictions.)

Why do you think iJimmy was looking at the 86/BRZ? I'm presuming because they can use it on P's.

Turbo restrictions are still in place and might be for some time despite speculation they were going to be removed this year.

In my option buy a basic car for much cheaper (e.g 15k if you MUST have new), put the rest in a high yielding savings account/shares/whatever until you get off your p's. Your lifestyle would've changed by then and you might be looking at moving out/investing in property so you could use that money as a significant portion of a deposit.

If not, you can buy a much better car (due to no turbo restrictions) plus the capital growth/interest from investing the money instead.

only green P's and up can drive supercharged cars, not sure about turbo for red platers.
