Here are some first preference statistics for one of my subjects:

Tutorial 1 - 25 places (35 requests)
Tutorial 2 - 25 places (31 requests)
Tutorial 3 - 25 places (1 request)
Tutorial 4 - 25 places (19 requests)

They only added tutorial 3 just now with 30 minutes left before preferences close so no one will have tutorial 3 in their preferences. If you add up the other 3 times there are 10 people too many.

It only asks for 2 preferences so if not enough people have selected tutorial 3 what happens? Do people get assigned to it even if they don't have it as one of their 2 preferences? I don't see any other solution.

Yep, they'll force people in, luck of the draw. And then they'll give the 'if you really have a problem, talk to us or try and swap with someone' speech during the lecture.

My first preference is the one with 10 too many people. I set my second preference as the one with 6 too many people and I set my availability so that I can't go to either of the other two times.

Should this get me my first preference?

Nope, your not guaranteed. And yes, it's because UOW are fuckers.

Obviously not guaranteed but I try to manipulate the system as much as possible. If I put my actual second preference I probably would of been given that because there were free spaces but if I put another full time as my second preference I have a good chance of getting my first.

I did get my first so it worked out well.

Dammit, I had to drop my elective due to clashing, I tried a few different subjects but nothing fit with my core subs.
Sure it's easier having one subject less but it means I'll have to be at uni an extra semester making up for it.
