hey i just filled out my application form for Carleton Uni next semester and i had to write down what subjects i plan to do over there. looks like i cant make a match for one of them, and i may have to spend an extra semester at MQ to finish my degree to catch up on this unit

this is something i didnt want to have to do and i said i wouldnt go if it came down to this .... but the more i think about Canada and escaping home, and after being accepted, i now really want to go

im just wondering would you guys do it ... spending another semester at MQ while everyone else in your class graduates???

there would be no chance of me doing the subject via distance learning (or whatever the name is)???

Why not?? Uni is a once in a lifetime experience. Going on exchange while at uni is not only a once in a lifetime experience, it's something not everyone gets the chance to do. If you really want to go on exchange I say go for it. An extra semester at uni is a measely 6 months of your life. You can probably work almost full time at the same time. The experience of going on exchange will never come around again.

Check out if you can do it via distance education or during the summer break or if you can swap some of your subjects around (do 200 levels in 3rd year and 300 levels in 2nd year and so on) to get them all fitted into the time.

I'm sure you probably could do it via correspondance if MQ allow it. But personally, I think it would be a lot of hassle doing it that way because you have to be so dedicated and motivated to make sure you do the work.

I'd say just go for it- what is 6 months?! Its hardly any time at all! Plus, its better you going now rather than later in your degree when it becomes even more specialised (and thus probably even harder to match up your units). And the uni is paying you a hell of a lot of money to go overseas.

If you've been accepted, yeah, go for it Dave! I think it would be just the most awesome experience!... Or you could go in a few years with Steve and I! ;)

why dont u just finish the digree and graduate with every1 elz and then just go there on a holiday.
u will be able to enjoy the place more if u rnt stuck attending uni there(goin from 1 state to anothe weneva u feel like it). u might be able to work there or even do a post grad unit or somethin....
But going to uni is half the experience. You can go for a holiday to any of these countries at any time in your life. You can't go to uni in another country at any time (ok you can, but not if you intend on going from uni to the workforce and staying there).

edit: damn time travel! and i am 6 mins ahead!

I've already 'wasted' a year by transferring from a BA and plan to stay further than the recommended 3 year finish for the B Media degree. Why? Cos as Ivy said, its a once in a lifetime oppurtunity, after this reality hits, and then we become boring and then suddenly wake up 40 and wondering what happened.

Macquarie is one of the best in allowing for such things to transgress and encourage more than any other uni that i know of, the ability for everyone to transfer and exchange. So make use of it :)

And good luck, and have fun i say!
