Well you won't be able to go into the University Bar, which is where most people spend their free time, so it won't be the best, although my University (Newcastle) doesn't seem to check ID:).

You'll be missing out on the drinking, clubbing, and adult bookshop/theartre adventours...

The UoW unibar dosen't check for ID's though if your're going there. (assumption based on location?)

Nah, she's going to a real University (USyd).

Santa: You people often go down to a skinbar between lectures and tutes? :p

well there might be some stuff you miss out on, but i dont think i've ever had my ID checked at any uni function, at the bar or on cruises or at balls, i think they just assume everyone is 18. If you dont tell anyone that you are not 18, no one will know. you might get probs if you go out to places outside of uni where they check ID.
Dont stress too much, just dont advertise your age and ppl will just assume you are 18.

The uni bar and other adult/drinking events may be important to some, but it seems as though most people tend to ignore them and be content with their own activities.

I was 16 when i first came to university.
Yes, it stopped me from doing a lot of the clubbing/drinking until I turned 18 but on the whole its not much of a problem imo.
My uni (flinders) does check id a lot, but you don't need to go clubbing/drinking to run around and do stupid drunken things if you want to :D My fave back in first year was driving around randomly with people and drinking buckets and then heading to the beach for 3am skinny-dipping ^______^

I have a more active social life than just about anyone that I know here at uni, but pretty well none of it involves going clubbing. Pubs don't tend to check ID as much, at least not down here I've found. And as for adult bookshops, I have never been asked for ID there, even when I used to go when I was 16.

My opinion on clubbing is that it's boring a lot of the time. You can't talk and it's sleazy quite often. Pubbing is much better! If you do go clubbing, if you're female go to the gay clubs and avoid the sleazy ugly guys trying to pick up anything with tits. Plus theres the added benefit of being able to perve on the cute guys snogging each other ^_-. If you're male, go to the gay clubs and pick up the females because there won't be as much competition, and if you're gay, go because well... they're the place to be :D

There is a significant group of kids just turned 18 who really get into the clubbing scene, but there are more at uni who don't and no wonder since clubbing gets old fast, same as drinking so much that you puke your guts up every weekend.

in a simple answer: yes.
your life will suck if you are going to be a study freak.
if you are smart or a quick learner, youll skip lectures and turn up to tutorials and do set readings and homework which will free up alot of time.
many uni students do that, i do it too, although it depends on the subject, course wateva.
most of my lecturers repeat what i've read so i dont turn up unless there is a participation mark.

The question was:

People are not necessarily saying that socialising means you must drink alcohol but socialising generally does mean going to over 18 clubs, which won't be possible for jessum:).

Eh. It doesn't have to mean going to clubs. Why do people seem to assume that socialising at uni involves clubbing?
Bloody hell. There are a lot of people at uni who don't really give a damn about clubbing and such, and why should they? It gets boring pretty quickly.
Do you have interests aside from wanting to do over 18's things? If so (and I'm sure you do) then you shouldn't have any problems socialising and being under 18!

Well a fair bit of it does involve going to clubs. Even the O-Ball is over 18's only I think:).

Yeah, I agree. I don't go out nearly as much as I used to because it has become boring and repetitive. I would much rather just have people come around to my house:).

Yeah, but a whole lot of people don't have other interests:p!

not completely. i know at UQ for example there is a LOT of socialising done outside the uni pub, just sitting at the tables outside the refectory, in the courtyard, etc

but yes, you will miss out on the friday afternoon drinking sessions that a lot of people seem to enjoy (and with good reason)

Just think of the positives. While everyone is out getting drunk and smashed, you will have all that time to do study and get High Distinctions.
