UNSw is the best for any form of engg. but uts on the other hand has better job prospects as they have closer industrial ties.
so its basically a toss up between the 2 of these. if ure planning to go overseas for work, then definitely unsw. staying in sydney, u might want to look at uts.

i think Da monster is rite,
if u plan 2 stay in sydney (or get ur first job in sydney) then UTS is the way to go, if not then it's more safe to go to UNSW.
also, i remember at the UNSW open day, i asked them which uni is betta for software engineering (i kno its a stupid Question~ hehe), they told me UNSW has a better reputation, but its also HARDER at UNSW, so i guess u'll hve 2 decide.
btw i picked UNSW dunno y..

Thanks anyway for your help. UNSW UAI cut off for comp engineering is aroud 90 wheras UTS is 82.05 so depending on my marks.
Also, UNSW doesnt provide 1 year work experience like UTS, does it?

if you work overseas wouldn't Sydney be more famous than NSW because of the Olympics. Every idiot knows that Sydney, the Sydney is in Australia (not the Canadian one) but where's NSW? Is it in the UK somewhere?

Hmm i dont know what it is with NSW ppl dissing usyd for computer/software engineering.. although ill agree that USYD has a different focus ... at least in first year.
NSW seems to be focussing a lot on theoretical and mathamatical grounds of computer science whereas USYD seems to focus on Team based development i.e making you better at programming in teams, learning "The right way" to solve common development problems, group processes etc. Nothing wrong with either method in my opinon, since both uni's allow you to specialise in the theoretical or practical sides in later years. Im doing software engineering at usyd, and you should be aware that all first year branches of electrical engineering (i.e software, computer, telecom,electrical) share the same first year courses.. which are
Electrical - first sem is high level stuff, i.e you like flip flops .. imagine lots of flip flops hehe... second sem is low level - you like resistors, imagine lots of resistors)
Software- Yup, um.. in usyd first semester is a very very basic overview of java- theres no course prerequisites so if u have done sdd at school, you can sleep through the course. Second semester focuses on Object orientated ideas and seems quite good actually.
Physics - Ugh.. i dont like it, maybe you do, you only have to do it in first year though. First semester is pretty basic stuff, like what you do in hsc physics only with slightly more maths. Motion, waves, and um.. something else i forget now. The questions can be hard sometimes but i would put the overall difficulty level as moderate. Why its good to do? well if you are interested in game design, basic knowledge of motion, forces etc would probably come in very handy.
Second Semester- Much better, first you learn fluids (which is pretty irrelevant) but then you do electronics (at an atomic level) and quantam physics .. In addition there is massive overlap between electrical and physics labs and tutes during this semester lowering the workload enormously.
Maths: Yup, i wouldnt do the course unless you didnt mind maths.
That being said, you only have 4 hours of math lectures per week and most of the stuff is simple (once you understand it).
So yeah, i would recommend sydney or nsw ... if you want an easier first year i would definately go sydney but eh..

But we do do "team based" subjects. All of the SENG (Software ENGineering) subjects are wholly team focused, including a lecture this week on team skills.

@ unsw, it is necessary for all engg students (not only seng) to complete 60 days of industrial training before they graduate. but there r 2 differences from uts
1) unsw IT is meant to be done during ur vacations, wheras in uts, IT is built into the program.
2) uts finds u a job, wheras in unsw, ure meant to find it urself. however, they kinda help u
