What about all the starving children??
It's not even commission based.. more the reason to just stand there and do nothing..
This isn't your run of the mill maccas job. I've had to memorise, and have to memorise, the answers to anything and everything people might decide to ask me about not only child sponsorships but the organisation in general.
(I.e. at the moment a lot of sponsors of Myanmar children are aproaching the stalls with varying queries as to their well being).
Then there's the sales training, etcetera, which you aren't paid for.

And this is all for seasonal, casual work, for which the pay rates are always higher, as it's always more inconvenient as there's less work to off-set the training... etcetera.

Plus it's what they have to pay as as per OH+S regulations for having to stand there that long, etcetera, etcetera.
Plus I'm dealing with cash, credit card details, large cash donations, you name it.

And on a personal note I don't know if I could a shift a day for a week straight if I wasn't being payed that much, it sounds aweful that it isn't totally rewarding, but it can be the most boring job on earth. Esp if the shop next door has the same jingle repeating over and over...
Actually, I'd keep doing it for less knowing that I'm fascilitating the financing of the projects which change peoples live. I spose, lol.

(+I can assure you that WV more than minimises administrative costs. We even practically beg people to pay annually rather than monthly to save in the acc dept).

Also, if you stand there and do nothing, you'll get fired. And if you brought in commissions promotors would focus on just getting people to sign up, rather than on making sure people know how long of a committment it is before they sponsor. (It's crap when people sign up and then leave the program straight away -which they can do as it isn't a contract - as not only does it dissapoint the kid and their community, but it's quite costly to the charity).

I got a casual job at I-View Market Research in North Sydney a month ago.

Trainee rate (50 hours) = 17/h

Normal rate = 21/h ...

which apparently goes up every year.

I've done my 50 hours so hurrah for 21/h!

Telephone surveys.

Telemarketers try to sell you stuff, I just try to get you to tell me stuff =)

Plus telemarketers can't call people on the DO NOT CALL list and we market researchers can.

Many ignorant people assume it's telemarketing. It's not.

If you put it that way, I still get paid to annoy.

I hardly cold-call though.

Our Melbourne office does most of the cold-calling.

Here in Sydney, we get named respondents so most people participate.

I've done jobs for Optus, NIB, MBF, Westpac and other randoms. Maybe I'll dial your number one day.

yes, but those named respondents still have no idea that you're going to call, as they accidentally nominated themselves for research.

Well, if you're dealing with any business, you know there's going to be market research involved.

It's quite interesting work - or rather interesting people you get to talk to.

Why would you work in telemarketing or tele market research whatever way you want to spin it unless you lived in Delhi ?

That statement's quite ignorant but out of curiosity, why would you be out of work?

All my friends would rather do what I'm doing than continue their, hospitality, retail, fast food "job".

That said, it's not my career choice, it's just a casual job that's earning me good money (as a first job EVER) right now so I ain't complaining.

Because it's not telemarketing?

You must be pretty ignorant to think it is.
