ok i wanna know which course is the most interesting, rewarding and high pay. i am interested in mechanical, aeronautical or electrical engineering. which 1 is the best choice, i am interested in moving things, especically cars, planes and stuff. electrical engineering also interests me. can someone help me out.

Pretty much all engineering fields has a skills shortage, you're pretty much guaranteed a job and decent money out of it.

How about you go for Mechatronic? it's half electrical/mechanical.

If youre chasing the doolahs go mining.

If you wan't money and a guarenteed job, do mining. It is heavily machine orientated if you enjoy the mechanical side of things. There is also a good oppurtunity to make you time studying at UNSW easier, as there are many scholarships.

If you choose either civil, mechanical or electrical you will have basically endless employment opportunities. Most people who do aeronautical end up working as mechanical engineers because the industry for them isn't exactly the most thriving.

Electrical is probably the highest paid out of the three, but the work isn't the most exciting. With civil and mechanical (even electrical), you can transient into mining if you wish, not everyone working in mines has a B Eng in mining engineering.

I don't know if mining would be the best choice considering the boom has to end sooner or later (could be even by the time you graduate university) so a more traditional specialisation would be best; some good universities don't even offer the specialised streams.

Damn i was thinking of doing aeronautical at UNSW but the campus is in CANBERRA??? Wow thats just stupid. Why base it on canberra and not kessington? How is USYD aero eng compared to UNSW?

Eh, in relation to mining engineering, which universities in NSW offer this course? I tried searching the UAC website, but couldn't find any courses offered- I'm guessing mining engineering would involve a substantial amount of civil, and the mechanical engineering aspects.

thats the list of programs that UNSW offers. how come aeronautical engineering is only in the last table and not under the "faculty of engineering" table? i am very confused here so can someone help me out please?

That lists courses. Can someone tell me the difference between a course and a program? This is confusing to me. so do you pick either a course or a program when you go to uni 1styear? Sorry I have no knowledge about this stuff.

Also mining engineering sounds very low class to me. isnt it the guys who just blows up the mines so the guys can dig in them...?

basically a course is like a subject, so for example acct 1501 is an accounting subject for its program in commerce/economics
the degree in which you rea undertaking is called the program
when you go to uni and you select your preferences you choose the PROGRAM you want to go into, and once youre accepted into that program, you pick the courses youre supposed to do for that program

youve got 2 years so dont worry about it too much yet

mining involves geotechnical, civil and mechanical

it is offerred in unsw, une, uow

Also a lot of report writing and group work in later years. It get really intense in third and fourth years, as the UNSW course has recently changed. The course is now exactly the same as that done by Curtin in WA and UQ in Queensland. Essentially, this course is the finest and most recognised mining course in all of Australia, with funding and recognition by both industry and education departments. If you are going to do mining, I suggest you would do it at UNSW if in NSW.

Petroleum Engineering.

As has been suggested u'd probably enjoy mining more given ur interests.

This obviously increases with experience, looking at it in terms of first year salaries however, Petroleum and Mining are the highest paying normally. Not sure what the average slaray is after graduation for mining, but for petroleum it ranges between $60-110, comparing that to the $40-60 with other engineering degrees.

In the long run though, whatever engineering u do, u'll be fine in terms of pay. Dont base ur choice only on pay for that reason.

Base it on whether you want a shit FIFO job or a nice job in sydney.
