Lime which is calcium oxide.

Limestone is calcium carbonate.

Shoot. I should have remembered this.

Well, you have some white powder and place it on top of the soil. Then you put the indicator solution on it, and observe the colour change of it.

A metal oxides basic, so Lime sounds right. If its too basic, add some acid.

Barium Sulfate. But that is to provide a neutral white background to see it.

If its too basic pour coke/vinegar onto it :p

Pretty much all soft drinks are acidic - after all, they have plenty of dissolved carbon dioxide.

Yep. One of the nice things l learned from that experiment...which i didn't do because someone drank out lemonade...
