Hi, so I bit the bullet and selected Science/Commerce at UNSW as my first preference.

The Commerce/Science(preview) page shows that students must complete:
+ 3 compulsory core business courses.
+ 4 flexible core business courses.
+ 1 math course.
+ 1 statistics course.
+ another 7 commerce courses for a major.
+ at least 14 science courses.
+ electives to make the total up to 32 courses over 4 years.

My question is: Which of the above courses would I do in my first year?

Thanks :)

(I ask because I've been trying to decide between Science/Commerce and Science/Arts for a while now. I wonder if I'll get a broad enough taste of the Commerce degree within first year that I'll know whether I want to continue it or instead transfer to Science/Arts. )

These courses you have do to. It is best to get them out of the way in the first semester, but they are offered in both.
ACCT1501 Accounting & Financial Mgt 1A
ECON1101 Microeconomics 1
MGMT1001 Managing Organisations&People

As for the maths course, it depends on your major in science. It will be one of these.
For non math majors:
MATH1011 Fundamentals of Mathematics B
MATH1031 Mathematics for Life Sciences

For math majors (You can do MATH1131 even if you dont intend to have a math major if you wish)
MATH1131 Mathematics 1A
MATH1141 Higher Mathematics 1A
MATH1151 Mathematics for Actuarial Studies and Finance 1A

Most commerce students choose ECON1203 Business & Economic Statistics as their stats course. But since you do a science degree, you can also do MATH1041 Stats for Life & Soc Sciences. Actuarial majors do different stats course in second year.

Rest really depends on your majors in commerce and in science. For flexible courses, most people end up doing ACCT1511 Accounting & Financial Mgt 1B and ECON1102 Macroeconomics 1, but it really depends on your major.

So sample would be:
Semester 1:
ACCT1501 Accounting & Financial Mgt 1A
ECON1101 Microeconomics 1
MGMT1001 Managing Organisations&People
ECON1203 Business & Economic Statistics/ MATH1041 Stats for Life & Soc Sciences

MATH1011 Fundamentals of Mathematics B/MATH1031 Mathematics for Life Sciences/ another maths course listed above
First year science course based on major
First year commerce course based on major
First year science course based on major

Of course you can chop and change.

This way all your core courses will be done by first year.
