What programs / software (free or paid) files do you use to fully secure your computer from viruses, hackers etc...

Please list them in order, and what purpose it has for the computer.

On windows.

Nortons AntiVirus Utilities. - Its pretty useless actually. But i keep it there to ward off the horrid parents "scan ur pc every week!!!", it makes them happy to know its all up to date even if it doesn't really seem to do its job in virus protection.

I go to free sites to scan at times, trendmicro etc. They do the job better than nortons.

On Linux.

Nothing because it doesn't need it!

ad-aware
norton antivirus
spybot - S & D
Zonealarm

- mind you i never install these for more then the time i need them, because each have flaws.

ad-aware: actually, come to think of it, there is no real flaws with it. Spybot doesn't like i though.

Norton: LIVEUPDATE is so damn annoying, this software is constantly trying to connect itself to the net so be careful.

spybot: Ad-aware hates it.

Zonealarm: Really lags up your system, though its great for detecting programs illegally accessing the net through your computer. (you would be amazed how much shit microsoft wants to no about you).

If you're careful you really don't need anything other than a virus check every week or so. Depends how much you download I guess.

I've got that KLEZ worm in all my system restore points because it's in my eudora attachments folder and I always forget to delete them.. so it's good to get that removed every now and again :) I installed/am using AntiVir which is free for personal use and I've used Avast! in the past.. they're both decent.

Why are you all using Norton? GRR!
Don't use Norton... It's really dodge.
Use either Sophos or Symantec.

I have ZoneAlarm Pro as firewall.
I have Adaware & Spybot S&D as spyware.

Symantec makes Norton Antivirus.

They also have a product called Symantec Antivirus - aimed at enterprise and corporate customers.
