What happens to your ATAR if you go to a top 20 school but rank last in a subject? (1 Viewer)

Say you go to a top 20 school and you happen to be ranked last in a subject for trials (but you're not usually last), and your mark isn't downright terrible. Will your others drag your ATAR up or will you drag everyone else down? Thanks

If majority of your cohort do exceptionally well, you will be pulled up. But you won't be dragged to the same range as them ofc.
So you need to do well too.
eg: i know someone who got 19 in phys but got pulled up to a 50.

The mark you got in trials isn't important in determining your internal assessment mark, it's just your rank. Whether you drag people down or whether other people drag you up will depend on the external exam

you can't drag your cohort down by doing badly in internals.

Will your others drag your ATAR up
it depends on how your cohort does in the HSC, and how you did in your other internal assessments.
If you did OK in other assessments, and you weren't last by a long shot in the trials, you probably won't be ranked last overall, but you'll still be below average.

to get a good HSC mark in the subject you need to do well in the HSC and your cohort (especially the bottom end) need to do well to 'drag you up'

so work hard for your HSC and help out your cohort.
