Hey

There have been threads on this but i don't get it...
So if u fail a course at any time during ur degree does the fail count towards ur
Grade Point Average (GPA) even though u do the course again and pass?

Does the pass count towards anything, or is it just the fail that counts to ur GPA?

Where can I find official documents about this?

thanx!!
:)

The fail will count towards your WAM/GPA (fail is GPA 0). I am not sure about when you repeat the subject, I assume that would count towards your WAM/GPA as well although it would not cancel the original fail as far as I am aware. It will all show on your myunsw account once you've done it anyway.

after all these threads, i got curious and emailed the uni...the reply was

ALL marks for completed subjects will be counted towards your WAM. A new mark
for a repeated subject DOES NOT cancel out the previous grade.

GPA stands for grade point average. You get a score for each result based on pass, credit, distinction etc. pass is 2, credit is 3, distinction is 4, high distiction is 5 and fail is 0

for example:

Maths 55 Pass
Physics 70 Credit
Chemistry 80 Distiction
English 90 High Distinction

The GPA here would be 3.5 (the sum of all divided by 4)

GPA is important because it is generally used for transfer between courses and in some programmes at UNSW it is used to calculate honours

WAM is just your average overall mark

I think I'd be suicidal if i got a bunch of 64, 74, 84 grades. I think WAM is a much better measurement.
