In a critical response how do we show what the ways of thinking in the 19th century society were, how can we prove it. Do we use philosophers and historians to show?

in which case you demonstrate 19th century paradigms through TEXTUAL TECHNIQUES which highlight the conflict between submission to convention and autonomy (as you ARE doing individual and society).

When critically analysing a nineteenth century text you have to include the paradigms (ways of thinking), these include religious, philosophical, economic and scientific and how they are shown in the selected text. You also must analyse the individual in society-their relationship in regards to the society they are a part of.
