Hi

Just wondering if there are decent water engineering jobs out there.
I am currently studying civil engineering and picked up some fluid mechanics subjects. I find fluid very interesting and would like to work in water in the future.

There's always jobs in water, particularly if you don't mind going into planning/design/construction of dams or irrigation type systems as a civil engineer.

If you did a joint fluids course with chem. eng. and civil you probably learned about flow in pipes as well as flow in open systems or around objects, the pipe flow stuff is usually used more by chemical engineers, especially laminar flow systems, for designing manufacturing plants etc, whereas civil engineers tend to get jobs on a larger scale.

There's a high demand for both civil and chemical engineers in water, however civil jobs usually revolve around very large scale projects like water catchment infrastructure etc. whereas chem. eng. focus on things like water treatment systems or the cooling water systems at factories and power plants.
