Hi there,

I'm in my final year of studies and planning on traveling at the end of the year. I wanted to go overseas and do volunteer work at the same time. Does anyone have any suggestions on organisations that run these? Or experiences to share? The only program I know about is i to i. I'd like to find out more.

Thanks.!

Well, last time I checked, the Taliban is hiring some english looking people. Maybe you can ask them for some part-time work? I'm sure they won't knock you back, maybe shoot you back, but they most likely won't knock you back.

Check them out.

i'm going with gap activity projects.
although they may have changed their name to lattitude now.
they're the oldest company in the business and have community and care, teaching english as a foreign language, boarding schools, teaching, and environmental placements pretty much all over the world.
they've already done interviews and stuff but i think theres second rounds later in the year possibly.
also theres always antipodeans and all those general volunteering companies etc.
the lonely planet gap year book is really good for finding companies.

Gap is your best bet.

Otherwise most places like you to have a uni degree.

Hi I am thinking about doing a similar thing next year, and have been looking at heaps of organisations.
Here are some suggestions:
* IFRE Volunteers: http://www.ifrevolunteers.org/
* Global Vision International: http://www.gvi.co.uk/volunteer-options/all-programs
* Volunteer Visions: http://www.volunteervisions.org/
* United Planet: http://www.unitedplanet.org/quest.html
* Projects Abroad: http://www.projects-abroad.org/
* Anitpodeans: http://www.antipodeans.com.au/
*World Youth International: http://www.worldyouth.org.au/

These are the ones that come to mind at the moment if you want to check them out. It all depends on what you'd like to go, do, which company feels right and what you're budget's like. Going through Australian government supported programs like AYAD: http://www.ayad.com.au/aspx/home.aspx and there's a few others are actually fully supported, but will sometimes require a qualification or long time commitment.

Good Luck!
